Overview
The Vimar Net Safe is an RJ45 Cat5e outlet module with a Panduit (MINI-COM) connector for terminating onboard Ethernet runs at a wall plate or console panel.
It supports T568A or T568B wiring and uses an 8-contact RJ45 interface, so standard Cat5e patch cords can be used between the in-boat cable run and a router, switch, access point, or other network device.
On boats, it is normally installed in a location that stays dry and protected, such as the helm console, nav station, or inside a cabinet where the network cabling can be dressed and strain-relieved away from spray and washdowns.
Key features
- Panduit (MINI-COM) RJ45 outlet for Cat5e structured cabling
- T568A/B universal wiring scheme for consistent pinout across the boat
- 8-contact RJ45 interface for standard Cat5e patch leads
- Available as unshielded (UTP) or shielded (FTP) to match the cable type you are running
- Vimar IDEA-format device for integrating into compatible mounting frames and cover plates
- Insulation-piercing terminals used for conductor termination
Variants
Net Safe is offered in multiple configurations so you can match the faceplate color and the screening of your Cat5e cable.
All versions use a Panduit (MINI-COM) Cat5e RJ45 connector with T568A/B wiring and 8 contacts; the differences are the finish color and whether the outlet is UTP (unshielded) or FTP (shielded).
- VM16364.1: Color Gray, Connector RJ45 Cat5e Panduit UTP. This version matches unshielded Cat5e cabling where the run is terminated as UTP end to end.
- VM16364.1.B: Color White, Connector RJ45 Cat5e Panduit UTP. The same UTP termination in a white finish to blend with white IDEA plates.
- VM16364.2: Color Gray, Connector RJ45 Cat5e Panduit FTP. Built for shielded Cat5e (FTP) runs where you want the outlet to match the screened cable path.
- VM16364.2.B: Color White, Connector RJ45 Cat5e Panduit FTP. The shielded option in a white finish for FTP runs in cabins, consoles, or comms lockers.
Installation and setup
Run Cat5e cable to the mounting location with enough slack to dress the cable without a tight bend. Terminate using the same wiring scheme (T568A or T568B) at every end of the run, then seat the conductors into the insulation-piercing terminals and trim as needed for a clean close-up.
For FTP versions, keep the cable screen continuous into the termination so the shielding remains effective through the outlet. Keep the cable routing tidy and separate from high-current DC runs where possible to help avoid induced noise on longer runs.
Compatibility and fit
This is an IDEA-series device format. Confirm your mounting frame and cover plate accept IDEA modules and that the back box has room for the cable bend radius and the termination area behind the jack.
The front connection is a standard RJ45 port intended for Cat5e patch cords between the outlet and your onboard network equipment.
Use cases on board
Common installations include a service port at the helm for a laptop, a patch point in the nav station, or a tidy handoff between a comms locker and cabin outlets. It also works well for distributing a wired connection from an onboard router or switch to access points, entertainment systems, or IP devices that use standard Ethernet.
This outlet suits boats that are moving from loose patch leads to structured Cat5e cabling and want terminations that stay organized and easy to troubleshoot.
