Overview
The Victron Energy BAM010700100 is a BMV-700H high voltage battery monitor for DC battery banks from 60 to 385 VDC. It gives a clear readout of battery voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed, state of charge, and estimated time remaining, which is useful on vessels with high-voltage propulsion, storage, or auxiliary energy systems where guessing battery reserve is not good enough.
The monitor calculates state of charge by measuring current flow through the supplied 500 A/50 mV shunt and tracking amp-hours in and out of the bank. It also stores historical battery data, helping owners and installers review discharge depth, charge cycles, and usage patterns over time.
For marine installations, the round display can be fitted at the helm, nav station, electrical panel, or other protected control area, while the shunt enclosure is installed in the battery circuit. A VE.Direct communication port allows connection to compatible Victron system hardware with the proper cable or interface.
Key features
- Made for high-voltage DC battery systems from 60 to 385 VDC.
- Tracks battery voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed, state of charge, and time remaining.
- Supplied with a 500 A/50 mV shunt housed in an enclosure for high-voltage applications.
- Programmable visual and audible alarms help flag low state of charge or voltage conditions before they become a problem on board.
- Programmable relay can be used for alarm functions, generator start logic, or load control when configured for the vessel’s electrical system.
- VE.Direct port supports integration with compatible Victron monitoring equipment using the correct interface cable.
- Historical data storage helps review battery use, discharge events, and charging behavior over time.
- Includes a 10 m RJ12 UTP cable for connecting the display head to the shunt assembly.
Installation and setup
The BMV-700H is built around a remote display head and a shunt installed in the negative side of the battery circuit. For accurate readings, all loads and charging sources need to pass through the system side of the shunt, so installation layout matters, especially in boats with multiple chargers, inverters, DC distribution points, or propulsion equipment.
After wiring, the monitor should be configured for the actual battery bank, including battery capacity and charging behavior. The front-panel buttons can be used for setup, and the VE.Direct port can also be used with compatible Victron interfaces for configuration and monitoring through supported Victron equipment.
Electrical and system integration
This model is intended for high-voltage battery banks rather than common 12 V or 24 V house banks. It is a strong match for marine electrical systems where the owner needs a dedicated local battery fuel gauge and wants the option to pass data into a broader Victron monitoring setup.
The programmable relay adds practical control options, but it should be wired and configured as part of the vessel’s overall electrical design. On boats with high-voltage DC, installation should be handled with the correct protection, isolation practices, and service access for the battery space.
Use cases on board
The BMV-700H suits boats that need close tracking of a high-voltage battery bank during cruising, long periods at anchor, electric propulsion use, or systems with heavy DC loads. It gives the operator a simple way to see remaining battery reserve without relying only on voltage, which can be misleading under changing load and charge conditions.
It is also useful for owners who want to understand how their battery bank is being used over a season. Stored history can make it easier to spot deep discharges, confirm charging habits, and discuss system behavior with a marine electrician when upgrades or troubleshooting are needed.
