Overview
The Garmin 010-12992-03 is a bail mount with side knobs for compatible GPSMAP 15x3 series displays that lets you surface-mount the unit and tilt it at the helm. It supports the common yoke-style setup on a dash, console top, electronics box, or overhead panel where you want the screen angle to be adjustable.
This style of mount is a practical choice when a flush mount is not in the cards, when you want more room behind the dash for wiring, or when you need the display to sit up where it is easier to see from both seated and standing positions.
Key features
- Fits Garmin GPSMAP 15x3 series displays (including GPSMAP 1523xsv and 1543xsv models)
- Bail-style surface mount that holds the display above the mounting surface
- Side knobs let you set the viewing angle and lock it in place
- Works well on helms where you need quick access to the display controls and room for cable routing
What's included
- Bail mount bracket
- Side knobs (2)
Compatibility and fit
This mount is intended for the GPSMAP 15x3 display family. Confirm your exact GPSMAP model is part of the 15x3 series and make sure you have clearance for the overall unit size, plus space behind the display for connector backshells and cable bend radius.
If you are replacing an existing bracket, check that the mounting surface is flat and wide enough for the base, and that the current hole pattern will work or can be safely re-drilled without weakening the panel.
Installation and setup
Mount the base to a solid surface that can handle vibration, then use sealant in any through-holes to keep water out of the core on fiberglass panels. On thinner dashboards, a backing plate helps keep the bracket from flexing when the boat is pounding.
Once the display is in the cradle, tighten the knobs enough to hold the angle without overloading the bracket. Leave a bit of service slack in the wiring so the unit can tilt without putting strain on the connectors.
On-board use
Bail mounting is a good match for boats where the viewing position changes often, like running offshore, working a spread from the cockpit, or docking from a side angle. Keeping the display above the surface also makes routine wipe-downs easier when salt spray and sunscreen build up.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the mount area during washdowns and periodically check that the base fasteners stay snug. If the knobs get gritty from salt or dust, a quick rinse and dry helps them turn smoothly and keeps wear down over time.
