Overview
The Attwood Marine Sure-Grip is a stainless steel rod holder range for keeping a fishing rod set on the boat while drifting, trolling, pan fishing, or crappie fishing. The holder uses a 3/8 inch diameter coated steel rod, a UV-resistant plastic coating to protect the rod butt and handle, and a stainless steel exposed stem with wing nut for the mounting connection.
This is a non-electrical fishing accessory, so fit is about mounting surface, rod angle, stem length, and rod style rather than 12V, 24V, or marine network compatibility. The range covers 4 inch and 8 inch stem lengths, with angle options that include 5 degree, 10 degree, 25 degree, and 45 degree configurations.
Key features
- 3/8 inch diameter coated steel rod gives the holder a firm wire form while keeping the rod butt away from bare metal.
- UV-resistant plastic coating helps protect rod handles from scuffing during repeated cockpit, deck, or rail-side use.
- The exposed stem and wing nut are stainless steel, which suits wet deck areas and regular removal or adjustment.
- Angle options across the range support horizontal rod placement, higher rod-tip positions for drifting, and trolling setups.
- 4 inch and 8 inch stem lengths help match the holder to available clearance around gunwales, coamings, seats, and tackle areas.
- Included 5071 mounting base fits 2 inch flat mounting surfaces.
Variants
Variants in this range change by holder angle, stem length, and rod type. Available configurations cover 5 degree, 10 degree, 25 degree, and 45 degree angles, 4 inch and 8 inch stems, and Multi-Purpose or Long-Handle Baitcasting rod-type formats.
The 5 degree versions keep the rod closer to a horizontal position, the 25 degree and 45 degree versions place the rod tip higher for drifting or trolling, and the 8 inch stem gives added clearance compared with the 4 inch stem. The listed holders use a stem with wing nut and include the 5071 mounting base.
Installation and fit
The Sure-Grip holder mounts through the 5071 flush base, which fits a 2 inch flat surface. A good location leaves room below the surface for the stem and wing nut, and room above the deck for the rod handle, reel, line path, and angler movement.
Common mounting areas include gunwales, cockpit coamings, casting decks, and other flat surfaces where the rod can sit clear of hatches, seating, canvas, and outboard swing. Since there is no wiring or electronics, installation is mechanical only, with no fuse, voltage, or NMEA requirement.
Use on board
This holder suits anglers who want a simple removable rod position for light trolling, drift fishing, pan fishing, or general cockpit use. Lower-angle versions help keep rods organized along the boat, while higher-angle versions raise the rod tip for line control during slow movement or stationary fishing.
Materials and care
The coated steel rod helps separate the rod handle from metal contact, while the stainless steel stem and wing nut handle the exposed mounting connection. After saltwater use, a fresh-water rinse and a quick check of the wing nut help keep the holder moving freely and reduce salt buildup around the mounting base.
