Overview
The Blue Sea Systems AC Isolation Cover is a protective cover for exposed AC panel backs on boats, especially where the rear of the panel projects into a locker, cabinet, or other storage space. It adds electrical isolation and physical protection behind the panel, helping reduce accidental contact with live components and shielding the panel back from loose gear or movement in tight spaces.
This range includes three sizes: 5-1/4 x 3-3/4 x 3 inches, 5-1/4 x 7-1/2 x 3 inches, and 7-1/2 x 10-1/2 x 3 inches. The lightweight material can be drilled for wire entry and exit, so the cover can be adapted to the routing needs behind the panel without forcing a poor cable path.
These covers meet ABYC requirements for panels with combined AC and DC systems, making them a practical match for marine electrical panels where isolation, service access, and locker clearance all matter.
Key features
- Helps isolate exposed AC panel backs from accidental contact inside lockers, cabinets, and service areas.
- Adds mechanical protection where the back of a panel is exposed to stored gear or movement on board.
- Lightweight material can be drilled for wire entrance and exit during installation.
- Meets ABYC requirements for panels that combine AC and DC circuits.
- Available in three depths and footprints to suit different panel backs and mounting spaces.
Variants
The AC Isolation Cover is offered in multiple configurations based on the size of the area that needs to be covered behind the panel.
The dimensions vary between variants, while the core function remains the same across the range: electrical insulation for exposed panel backs, mechanical protection for panel backs protruding into lockers, drillable material for wire routing, and ABYC compliance for panels with combined AC and DC.
- 4026, Dimensions 5-1/4 x 3-3/4 x 3. This is the smallest cover in the range and suits compact panel backs where locker or cabinet space is limited.
- 4027, Dimensions 5-1/4 x 7-1/2 x 3. This wider version covers a larger panel back while keeping the same 3-inch depth for installations with moderate rear clearance.
- 4028, Dimensions 7-1/2 x 10-1/2 x 3. This is the largest version in the range and gives more coverage for larger panel backs or wider exposed areas.
Installation and setup
Before installation, confirm the rear clearance behind the panel and check the full path for AC and DC wiring. The cover should have enough space to sit over the exposed back of the panel without pressing into terminals, conductors, or cable bends.
Because the material can be drilled, wire openings can be placed where they make sense for the boat instead of forcing cables through a fixed entry point. Keep openings clean, route conductors without sharp bends, and follow normal marine electrical practices for strain relief and chafe protection.
Compatibility and fit
This cover is most useful on boats where an electrical panel backs into a locker, storage compartment, nav station cabinet, or another area that may be reached during normal use. It helps keep the back of the panel separated from hands, tools, lines, clothing, and loose equipment.
Fit should be checked against the panel back or object being covered, not only the face of the panel. The listed dimensions describe the coverage area, so the correct variant depends on the length, width, and depth needed behind the installation.
