Overview
The Blue Sea Systems Push Button Reset Only Screw Terminal Circuit Breaker is a reset-only thermal branch circuit breaker for DC boat circuits where switching is handled elsewhere. It is used for branch circuit protection and can also be used for 24-hour circuit protection, with amperage options from 3A to 40A across the range.
This breaker is rated for a maximum of 32V DC and uses #8 screw terminals for secure wire connections behind a panel. The panel mount is 3/8-27 UNS, which suits compact electrical layouts where multiple protected circuits need to fit cleanly in a helm, console, battery area, or distribution panel.
The trip-free mechanism prevents the breaker from being held on during a fault current condition, while the push-to-reset button makes recovery straightforward after the fault has been corrected. It is ignition protected for installation aboard gasoline-powered boats and operates from -10° C to 60° C.
Key features
- Reset-only thermal circuit breaker for branch circuits and 24-hour circuit protection where a separate switch is used or switching is not required.
- Amperage range covers 3A, 5A, 7A, 10A, 15A, 20A, 25A, 30A, and 40A circuit protection needs.
- 32V DC maximum voltage rating for common marine DC electrical systems.
- Trip-free operation prevents the breaker from being forced to stay on during a fault current condition.
- Push-button manual reset gives a clear, simple way to reset the circuit after troubleshooting.
- #8 screw terminals support secure panel wiring and help keep connections firm in areas exposed to vibration.
- Panel mount with 3/8-27 UNS thread supports compact installations in control panels and distribution areas.
- Interrupt capacity is 3000A at 14.7V DC and 2500A at 28V DC.
- Ignition protected for use aboard gasoline-powered boats when installed as part of a proper marine electrical system.
- Optional push button waterproof boots are available for added protection in wet locations.
Variants
This circuit breaker range varies by amperage rating, from 3A through 40A, so it can be matched to the load and wire protection requirement of the circuit being protected. The reset-only format, screw terminal connection, 32V DC maximum rating, panel mounting, thermal trip behavior, and trip-free function remain consistent across the range.
Lower amperage versions suit smaller electronics and control circuits, while higher amperage versions are used for larger DC loads that still fall within the breaker rating and the vessel’s wiring plan. The breaker should be selected to match the protected conductor and the circuit requirements, not just the equipment size.
Installation and setup
Install the breaker in an accessible panel location so the reset button can be reached without removing covers or disturbing wiring. The #8 screw terminals should be tightened to 6 in-lb or 0.68 Nm, which helps avoid loose connections without overtightening the hardware.
Because this is a reset-only breaker, it does not replace a switch when routine on and off control is needed. It works well in circuits where the load already has its own control, where switching is handled elsewhere, or where continuous circuit protection is required.
Marine use on board
This breaker is a practical match for helm panels, small distribution panels, electronics circuits, lighting circuits, pump controls, and other DC branch circuits where compact protection is needed. On gasoline-powered boats, the ignition-protected rating matters when the installation location may be near machinery spaces or other areas where ignition protection is required by the system design.
For wet cockpit, deck, or console locations, the optional waterproof boot can help protect the push button area from spray and washdowns. In dry protected panels, the standard button layout keeps the installation compact and easy to service.
