Overview
The Jabsco 18370-0000 is a 2 inch bronze pedestal flexible impeller pump used for engine cooling, bilge pumping, washdown supply, bait tank circulation, and dockside utility pumping. It has a nominal flow rate of 60 gallons per minute at 1500 RPM and will self-prime from dry up to 7.8 feet, which helps when the pump sits above the water source or the suction line is not flooded at startup.
The pump body is bronze with a Type 316 stainless steel shaft, a carbon-ceramic mechanical seal, sealed ball bearings, and 2 inch internal pipe-thread ports. It may be mounted in any position, and the intake and discharge sides are determined by shaft rotation, which gives more freedom when working around existing plumbing and drive layout.
Key features
- Nominal 60 GPM flow at 1500 RPM for cooling water, washdown, transfer, and other high-volume duties
- Self-priming from dry up to 7.8 ft and able to prime at low or high shaft speeds
- Bronze body with a Type 316 stainless steel shaft for wet marine service
- Carbon-ceramic mechanical seal and sealed ball bearings
- Handles hard and soft solids without clogging
- Can pump in either direction and will not airlock
- 2 inch internal pipe-thread ports with a pedestal mount layout that can be installed in any position
Installation and setup
This model suits installations built around a pedestal-mounted pump with 2 inch plumbing. Before fitting it, confirm the direction of shaft rotation, since rotation determines which port becomes suction and which becomes discharge. Suction-side connections need to stay airtight for proper priming.
For replacement work, the base mounting dimensions, height above base to shaft, and height above base to port centerline match the earlier Jabsco 10490-0001. The dimensional drawing shows an overall length of 10-7/8 inches, which is useful when checking clearance around pulleys, couplings, bulkheads, and hose runs.
Compatibility and fit
This pump is a good fit for boats that already use a mechanically driven impeller pump for engine cooling, washdown, bait tank circulation, bilge transfer, or dockside water movement. It also makes sense for owners replacing an existing pedestal pump and wanting to stay with a 2 inch port size and the same basic mounting relationship used by the earlier 10490-0001 layout.
Maintenance and care
The end cover can be removed for impeller service, so routine maintenance is straightforward when access is planned into the installation. Dry running should be kept under 30 seconds to avoid impeller damage, and the pump can be drained by loosening the end cover screws.
