Overview
The Jabsco Flexible Impeller Removal Tool is a puller for removing flexible pump impellers during marine engine cooling and onboard pump maintenance. It is offered in three sizes for impellers up to 2.25 in (57 mm), up to 2.5 in (65 mm), or from 2.5 in (65 mm) to 4.5 in (118 mm), so the right version can be matched to the impeller diameter before service begins.
This tool is useful when an impeller is stuck on the shaft, when the pump body is set deep in an engine room, or when there is not enough room to work safely with makeshift tools. The puller grips the impeller for a more controlled removal, helping reduce the chance of damage to the pump body compared with prying at the vanes or hub.
Key features
- Made for removing flexible impellers from marine pumps, including engine cooling pump service.
- Fits all makes of flexible impellers when the correct puller size is matched to the impeller diameter.
- Helps avoid potential pump damage during removal, especially where access is tight.
- Stainless steel construction suits repeated use in marine service environments.
- Available in compact, standard, and larger diameter ranges to cover common flexible impeller sizes.
Variants
The product is offered in multiple configurations based on the flexible impeller diameter the tool can handle. The main difference between versions is the working size range, with one compact option, one option for impellers up to 2.5 in, and one option for larger impellers.
All listed versions are Jabsco flexible impeller removal tools for the same service task: pulling flexible impellers with a controlled grip instead of prying against the pump body.
- 50070-0080: Impeller diameter capacity up to 2.25 in (57 mm). This compact version suits smaller flexible impellers and service areas where space around the pump is limited.
- 50070-0040: Impeller diameter capacity up to 2.5 in (65 mm). This size covers many small to mid-size marine flexible impellers used in routine pump maintenance.
- 50070-0200: Impeller diameter capacity from 2.5 in (65 mm) to 4.5 in (118 mm). This larger version is intended for bigger flexible impellers where a wider puller range is needed.
Use on board
A flexible impeller can swell, bind, or stick to the shaft after time in service, especially in raw-water cooling systems that see heat, saltwater, and seasonal layup. A proper impeller puller is a practical addition to an engine room tool kit for coastal cruisers, fishing boats, workboats, and sailboats that carry out their own pump service.
The tool is also helpful for yards and marine technicians who work on different pump brands. Matching the puller to the impeller diameter before starting the job keeps the service process cleaner and reduces unnecessary stress on the pump housing.
Installation and service notes
Before using the puller, the pump cover and any cover gasket or O-ring should be removed according to the pump service procedure. The puller should be positioned so it grips the impeller evenly, then tightened and drawn back in line with the shaft to remove the impeller without levering against the pump body.
After removal, inspect the old impeller for missing vane pieces and check the pump chamber before fitting the replacement. For the best fit, compare the impeller diameter with the selected puller range and keep the tool clean after use in damp or salty engine room conditions.
