Overview
The Victron Energy MEGA-fuse 80V is a high-current DC fuse range for protecting boat electrical circuits against short circuits and overloads. Each version is rated for up to 80V DC and is supplied as a package of 5 pieces, making it suitable for service stock, refits, and multi-circuit installations where matching spare fuses are useful.
These MEGA fuses are commonly used in DC distribution layouts with inverters, battery banks, chargers, solar equipment, and other high-amperage loads. The 80V rating makes the range suitable for many 12V, 24V, and 48V nominal marine power systems, provided the selected current rating matches the circuit design, cable size, and fuse holder.
Key features
- 80V DC rating supports common low-voltage marine DC systems, including many 12V, 24V, and 48V nominal installations.
- Available current ratings from 40A to 500A cover a wide range of battery, inverter, charger, and DC distribution circuits.
- MEGA fuse format works with compatible MEGA fuse holders used in high-current DC installations.
- Package of 5 pieces helps keep matching spares on board or in the workshop for maintenance and refit work.
- Useful for protecting high-amperage circuits where the fuse rating must be matched to the cable and equipment requirements.
Variants
This Victron Energy MEGA-fuse 80V range varies by current rating. The available options are 40A, 60A, 80A, 100A, 125A, 150A, 175A, 200A, 225A, 250A, 300A, 400A, and 500A.
All listed configurations are 80V MEGA fuses supplied in packages of 5 pieces. The correct rating depends on the circuit being protected, so the fuse should be selected as part of the overall DC design, taking into account cable size, expected current, equipment limits, and the fuse holder being used.
Installation and setup
Install the fuse in a compatible MEGA fuse holder, positioned as close as practical to the power source being protected. On a boat, that usually means near the battery bank, busbar, inverter feed, charger feed, or other high-current DC connection point, while still keeping the holder accessible for inspection and replacement.
Before installation, confirm that the circuit is isolated and that all terminals are clean, tight, and protected from accidental contact. Fuse holders and cable lugs should be mounted so vibration, cable strain, and moisture exposure do not loosen the connection over time.
Compatibility and fit
This range is intended for systems that use the MEGA fuse form factor. It should not be substituted for MIDI, ANL, blade, or cartridge fuse formats unless the holder and circuit have been changed accordingly.
The current rating should never be chosen only by the equipment size. It must also match the conductor size, installation method, expected load, and the protection requirements for the circuit. This is especially important on boats where long cable runs, warm compartments, and high continuous DC loads can affect system performance.
Use cases on board
These fuses are a practical match for marine DC systems with high-current equipment, such as inverter feeds, battery distribution, DC chargers, solar charge controller outputs, windlass circuits, and auxiliary power circuits when the design calls for a MEGA fuse. They are also useful for keeping spare protection parts on board during extended cruising or remote service work.
