Overview
The Attwood Marine 4232-7 is a stainless steel mesh strainer/drain filter for 3/4" aerator inlets and the Attwood 3886-1 thru-hull. It uses formed stainless wire mesh set into a black PVC base, giving the intake a screened opening that helps keep debris out of baitwell drains and aerator pump systems.
The 3/4"-14 NPSM thread is the key fit point to confirm before ordering. On boats with livewell or baitwell plumbing in this size, this strainer is a straightforward replacement when the old screen is damaged, missing, or letting weeds and loose debris reach the pump.
Key features
- Fits 3/4" aerator inlet connections and the Attwood 3886-1 thru-hull
- 3/4"-14 NPSM thread for replacement fit matching
- Formed stainless steel wire mesh helps stop debris before it reaches the drain or pump intake
- Black PVC base supports the mesh and threads into the matching inlet or thru-hull fitting
- Useful on baitwell and livewell systems where loose scales, weeds, and other debris can clog water flow
Compatibility and fit
This strainer is meant for baitwell and livewell plumbing that already uses the matching 3/4"-14 NPSM connection. It is a good match for boats that run an Attwood 3886-1 thru-hull or a 3/4" Attwood aerator inlet and need a screened intake rather than an open fitting.
It is not a universal drain screen, so the thread size matters more than the outside appearance. Checking the existing inlet or thru-hull part number before installation is the safest way to avoid cross-threading or a loose fit.
Installation and setup
Installation is simple once the mating fitting is confirmed. The aerator pump should be secured with the aerator attachment nut before the strainer is installed, which keeps the pump assembly in place while the screen is threaded on.
For boat owners replacing a worn screen at the transom or livewell intake, this part makes the most sense when the rest of the plumbing is still in good condition and only the strainer needs attention.
Maintenance and care
The mesh should be checked from time to time for weeds, scales, sand, or other buildup that can reduce pump flow. A quick rinse and inspection during routine washdown or livewell cleaning will usually keep water moving the way it should.
