Overview
The Garmin GPSMAP 9000 series is a fully integrated touchscreen chartplotter line for glass-helm installs, offered in 10, 13, 17, 19, 22, 24, and 27-inch displays.
On 10-inch and 13-inch models you get an HD touchscreen; 17-inch and larger units step up to a 4K IPS touchscreen. Across the range, processing power is rated up to 7 times faster than the previous generation, and the housing is IPX7 water-resistant for open-helm spray and routine washdowns.
These displays sit at the center of a connected helm. They support Garmin BlueNet with gigabit networking, plus NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 for tying in autopilot control, sensors, AIS, and engine gateways. Variants are available as chartplotter-only or with built-in sonar, and with either a worldwide basemap or built-in Garmin Navionics+ mapping.
Key features
- Display size options from 10-inch through 27-inch to match console space and viewing distance
- HD touchscreen on 10-inch and 13-inch models; 4K IPS touchscreen on 17-inch and larger models
- Garmin BlueNet support with gigabit networking for multi-display helms and shared accessories
- NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity for integrating autopilot, sensors, AIS, VHF, and engine data interfaces
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi support for fast wireless updates and mobile integration through the ActiveCaptain app
- IPX7 water-resistance rating for wet helms, salt spray, and washdowns
- Video integration support with HDCP distribution for bringing compatible video sources onto the helm
- Configurations offered with built-in sonar or as chartplotter-only, depending on how you build your sounder system
Variants
This product range is offered in multiple configurations that change three things: display size, the chart package, and whether the unit includes built-in sonar.
Chart options are either a worldwide basemap or built-in Garmin Navionics+. Sonar options are listed as Yes or No; sonar-enabled units accept a compatible transducer directly at the display, while non-sonar versions are used with external sonar sources if you want sounder data on screen.
Installation and helm fit
Plan the install around the cutout and the rear clearance for cables and bend radius, especially on larger 4K screens where multiple network and video connections may be used. A flush-mount glass-helm install keeps the screen readable and reduces snag points in the cockpit, but a bail mount can make sense on open boats where you want quick access behind the unit.
On saltwater boats, run wiring so connectors stay above bilge level and away from direct washdown streams. Use a drip loop on every cable run and keep network cabling separated from high-current runs to reduce noise.
Networking and system integration
Garmin BlueNet gives you the bandwidth for high-traffic accessories like radar, cameras, and multi-screen chart sharing. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 support makes it straightforward to bring in heading sensors, AIS targets, autopilot control, and engine data through compatible gateways.
If you are replacing an older multi-function display, confirm your existing network type and connector standards before you plan adapters or backbone changes. On boats with multiple stations, keeping network standards consistent across stations helps avoid duplicated sensors and unnecessary conversions.
Who this is a good match for
This series fits skippers building a connected helm where charting, radar, autopilot control, and camera views live on the same screen. It also suits larger center consoles, sportfishers, and yachts where a 19-inch to 27-inch display improves split-screen readability for offshore runs and busy inlets.
