Overview
The Blue Sea Systems A-Series Flat Rocker Circuit Breaker is a double-pole magnetic hydraulic breaker for marine electrical panels, combining manual switching and circuit protection in one panel-mounted unit. This version family uses a flat rocker actuator, supports both AC and DC systems, and is rated up to 120V AC, 240V AC, and 32V DC.
The double-pole format is commonly used where two conductors need to be opened together, such as AC main circuit protection on a boat. Its trip-free mechanism means the breaker cannot be held in the ON position during a fault condition, which helps protect wiring and connected equipment when current rises beyond the selected rating.
The actuator shows the OFF position clearly, and international ON/OFF symbols allow the breaker to be mounted vertically or horizontally. It is built for panel installations using #6-32 stainless steel mounting screws and #10-32 stainless steel terminal screws, with an operating temperature range from minus 40°C to 85°C.
Key features
- Double-pole A-Series breaker for circuits where two poles must switch and trip together.
- Magnetic hydraulic, trip-free circuit breaker type for switching and circuit protection in one device.
- Maximum voltage ratings of 120V AC, 240V AC, and 32V DC for use across common marine electrical systems.
- Interrupt capacity of 3000A at 240V AC, 1500A at 240V AC TUV, and 5000A at 32V DC.
- Flat rocker actuator sits flush in the ON position to help reduce accidental switching at the panel.
- Color actuator indicates the OFF position for quick status checks at the helm, nav station, or electrical panel.
- International ON/OFF symbols support either vertical or horizontal mounting.
- Meets ABYC standards and carries UL 1077 recognition, TUV certification, CE marking, and CSA certification.
- Rated for 10,000 switching cycles for repeated use as both a breaker and a switch.
Variants
This A-Series double-pole flat rocker breaker range varies by amperage. The available configurations cover ratings from 10A to 50A, allowing the breaker size to be matched to the circuit load and the ampacity of the installed wire.
The core format remains the same across the range: double pole, flat rocker actuator, magnetic hydraulic trip-free operation, and support for 120V AC, 240V AC, and 32V DC systems. Select the amperage rating as part of the vessel’s circuit protection plan, making sure it is appropriate for the wire size, load type, and applicable marine electrical standards.
Electrical and system integration
This breaker is a practical match for marine electrical panels where the breaker also needs to serve as the circuit switch. On AC panels, the double-pole layout is useful for main circuit protection or other circuits where both conductors must be disconnected together. On DC systems, it can be used where the circuit design calls for double-pole protection and the selected amperage matches the wiring and load.
For loads with startup surge, such as motors or inductive equipment, breaker sizing should account for inrush current as well as normal running current. The breaker rating should be high enough for the expected operating load while still being low enough to protect the wire in the circuit.
Installation and fit
The flat rocker actuator gives the panel a low-profile control surface, which is helpful around helm panels, cabin electrical panels, and other tight locations where hands, gear, or clothing may brush against switches. The breaker can be mounted in either vertical or horizontal orientation, so the panel layout can follow the available space instead of forcing a single orientation.
Terminal and mounting torque should be followed carefully during installation. The mounting screw torque is 6 in-lb, and the screw terminal torque is 14 in-lb. Correct torque helps maintain a secure electrical connection on a boat, where vibration and repeated heating cycles can loosen poorly installed hardware over time.
Use cases on board
This breaker family is suited to refits, panel replacements, and new marine electrical builds that use Blue Sea Systems A-Series panel components. It fits boats that need clean panel switching, clear breaker status, and circuit protection that can handle the vibration, temperature swings, and service access limits found in real onboard installations.
It is a good fit for owners, installers, and technicians working on AC or DC distribution panels where the exact amperage needs to be selected circuit by circuit rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all part.
