Overview
The Attwood Marine 9083-7 is a ski mirror for tow boats and runabouts that need a wider rearward view from the helm. It uses a shatterproof 180 degree convex lens and a compact mirror head that measures 7-5/16 inches wide by 2-1/2 inches high, so it adds coverage astern without taking much space at the dash or windshield.
Its universal mount fits on the dash or on a windshield frame up to 3/4 inch thick. The mirror head adjusts up, down, and side to side, and the spring-loaded ball joint helps it stay in position when the boat is running through chop and normal vibration.
The body is built in chrome-plated ZAMAK with a Perma-Plate chrome finish. That makes it a practical match for open helm stations where spray, sun, and routine wipe-downs are part of normal use.
Key features
- Universal mount for dash installation or windshield frames up to 3/4 inch thick
- Shatterproof 180 degree convex lens for a wider rearward view and fewer blind spots
- Mirror head adjusts up, down, and side to side to suit different helm positions
- Spring-loaded ball joint helps keep the mirror from drifting out of position underway
- Chrome-plated ZAMAK body with Perma-Plate chrome finish
- Compact mirror size of 7-5/16 inches wide by 2-1/2 inches high
Compatibility and fit
This mirror works with boats that have enough room at the center of the dash or at the windshield frame for a clear line of sight astern. Windshield mounting is intended for framed windshields up to 3/4 inch thick. Frameless windshields are not recommended for this installation style.
On stepped windshield frames, or on frames under 0.450 inch thick, a spacer may be needed to get the base seated correctly. That is worth checking before drilling or clamping the mirror in place.
Installation and setup
For a dash installation, the base is used as the drilling template and the mount is secured with two #10 x 3/4 inch stainless steel wood or sheet metal pan-head screws, which are not included. Windshield installation uses the supplied clamping bracket and only needs basic hand tools. In either position, mounting close to the boat centerline gives the driver the cleanest view.
Once mounted, the head can be set for driver height and seating position. If more adjustment is needed, the mirror head can be rotated one-half turn and reset.
Use on board
This mirror is a good match for ski boats, wake boats, and runabouts that tow riders and need a wider glance astern from a seated helm. It also makes sense as a replacement when an older mirror has lost tension or the reflective surface is no longer easy to use.
