Overview
This Garmin transducer bundle combines a transom-mount scanning transducer with an in-hull CHIRP transducer for boats with a solid fiberglass hull. The transom unit handles ClearVü and SideVü scanning, while the in-hull transducer reads through the hull for CHIRP traditional sonar, which is useful when you want dependable depth and bottom tracking without a second external pickup.
The in-hull transducer option is the main fit check. GT8HW-IH supports a maximum deadrise angle of 6° and runs from 150 to 240 kHz at 250 W (RMS), with a maximum depth of 244 m (800 ft.). GT15M-IH uses an in-hull tank system that covers deadrise angles from 0° to 25°, mounts over solid fiberglass hulls up to 16 mm (5/8 in.) thick, and runs from 85 to 165 kHz at 600 W (RMS), with a maximum depth of 549 m (1800 ft.).
Key features
- Dual-transducer setup: transom scanning (ClearVü and SideVü) plus in-hull CHIRP traditional sonar for depth and bottom tracking through solid fiberglass.
- GT36 transom option adds Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and SideVü scanning for sharper structure and fish detail.
- GT8HW-IH in-hull option: maximum deadrise 6°; 150 to 240 kHz; 250 W (RMS); maximum depth 244 m (800 ft.).
- GT15M-IH in-hull option: 0° to 25° deadrise tank system; solid fiberglass hulls up to 16 mm (5/8 in.); 85 to 165 kHz; 600 W (RMS); maximum depth 549 m (1800 ft.).
- Includes the y-cable needed to install both transducers into a single compatible sonar input.
- Installation routing guidance: keep transducer cabling away from ignition wires, batteries, and other high-energy wiring to help reduce interference.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple configurations that pair either a GT36 or GT30 transom-mount scanning transducer with either a GT8HW-IH or GT15M-IH in-hull CHIRP transducer.
The transom transducer choice affects the scanning model (GT36 with Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and SideVü, or GT30 with ClearVü and SideVü scanning). The in-hull transducer choice affects the CHIRP band and the hull fit: GT8HW-IH is for up to 6° deadrise, while GT15M-IH covers 0° to 25° deadrise using its in-hull tank system and mounts over solid fiberglass up to 16 mm (5/8 in.) thick.
- 010-02536-00: Transom Mount GT36 + In-hull Transducer GT8HW-IH. This pairs Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and SideVü scanning at the transom with a 150 to 240 kHz in-hull CHIRP install for fiberglass hull locations up to 6° deadrise.
- 010-12763-00: Transom Mount GT30 + In-hull Transducer GT8HW-IH. This combines ClearVü and SideVü scanning at the transom with a 150 to 240 kHz in-hull CHIRP install for fiberglass hull locations up to 6° deadrise.
- 010-02536-10: Transom Mount GT36 + In-hull Transducer GT15M-IH. This pairs Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and SideVü scanning at the transom with an 85 to 165 kHz in-hull tank install that supports 0° to 25° deadrise on solid fiberglass up to 16 mm (5/8 in.).
- 010-12763-10: Transom Mount GT30 + In-hull Transducer GT15M-IH. This combines ClearVü and SideVü scanning at the transom with an 85 to 165 kHz in-hull tank install that supports 0° to 25° deadrise on solid fiberglass up to 16 mm (5/8 in.).
Installation and setup
On the transom side, placement matters as much as the transducer itself. Mount the transducer parallel to the water line in clean water flow, away from strakes, intakes, and anything that introduces bubbles. For outboard and sterndrive boats, keep the transducer at least 38 cm (15 in.) from the propeller and seal all screw threads at the transom to help prevent water intrusion.
For the in-hull transducer, the mounting location must be solid fiberglass with no coring or dead air space, typically in the bilge area near the keel and transom. GT8HW-IH uses a foam mounting ring and epoxy coupling and should not be operated until the epoxy has fully cured. GT15M-IH installs into its in-hull tank, which is filled with RV/marine antifreeze fluid or mineral oil, and the transducer is secured with the enclosed screws.
Compatibility and system integration
To get the full benefit, your sonar display needs to support CHIRP traditional sonar plus ClearVü and SideVü scanning. These bundles are set up for a dual-transducer installation using the included y-cable, so confirm your device input and sonar support for the specific transducer models in your chosen variant before ordering.
When planning the install, route transducer cables away from ignition wiring, batteries, and other high-energy runs such as radar, audio amplifier, or autopilot pump wiring. If you need additional reach, use an extension cable intended for marine sonar and avoid excessive extension lengths that can introduce signal loss.
Maintenance and care
If your boat stays in the water for extended periods, apply a water-based antifouling paint to the transducer and mounting hardware to help reduce marine growth. Rinse after saltwater use and avoid acetone or acetone-based cleaners on the transducer housing.
Use cases on board
This bundle makes sense for anglers who want scanning views off the transom while keeping traditional CHIRP depth reading through the hull, especially on fiberglass boats that run at speed and still need dependable bottom tracking. It is also a practical match when transom space is tight or when you prefer to keep the traditional sonar element protected inside the bilge.
