Overview
The Garmin 010-01966-00 is a GT51M-TM transom-mount transducer that combines traditional mid-band CHIRP sonar with CHIRP DownVü and SideVü scanning, plus a built-in temperature sensor, through a 12-pin connection. It runs traditional mid-band CHIRP in the 80 to 160 kHz range at 600 W, and DownVü and SideVü at 260 and 455 kHz with 500 W elements.
On the screen, traditional CHIRP is the view most people use for fish arches and bottom tracking at speed, while DownVü and SideVü add clearer structure detail for looking straight down and to the sides of the boat. With all three views in one transom-mounted housing, it is a straightforward fit for many trailered boats and outboards where you want scanning sonar without adding multiple transducers.
Key features
- Transom-mount transducer for traditional CHIRP, DownVü, and SideVü in a single unit
- Traditional mid-band CHIRP: 80 to 160 kHz, 600 W
- DownVü and SideVü: 260/455 kHz, 500 W elements
- Built-in fast-response temperature sensor for real-time water temperature readings
- 12-pin transducer connector for compatible Garmin sonar displays and modules
Compatibility and fit
This transducer uses a 12-pin connector, so match it to a Garmin display or sonar module that accepts a 12-pin transducer plug and supports the sonar types you plan to use, including DownVü and SideVü. If your system uses a different transducer port style, confirm the correct connection path before install so you are not forced into a last-minute rewire at the dock.
Installation and setup
Transom mounting is all about clean water flow. Place the transducer where it stays in the water when on plane, away from strakes, steps, and through-hull fittings that create aerated water. Keep the cable run protected from chafe and pinch points, leave a service loop at the transducer, and seal any fasteners properly to keep water out of the core.
After mounting, set the correct transducer type in your Garmin sonar menu so the unit applies the right CHIRP and scanning profiles. A quick on-water check for bottom lock at speed and clean SideVü returns will tell you if the height and angle need minor adjustment.
Use on board
This is a solid match for boaters who want one transom-mounted transducer that covers general sonar, structure scanning, and temperature without managing multiple installations. It suits typical coastal cruising, inshore fishing, and lake use where you switch between traditional CHIRP for tracking and scanning views when you are working edges, ledges, and bait holding areas.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the transducer face after saltwater use and keep the underside free of growth, which can soften returns. Periodically check the mounting hardware and cable routing for vibration wear, especially on boats that see long runs or frequent trailering.
