Overview
The Garmin 010-01966-10 is a stainless steel thru-hull transducer that combines traditional CHIRP sonar with CHIRP ClearVü and CHIRP SideVü scanning in a single 12-pin unit.
Traditional sonar runs mid-band CHIRP 80 to 160 kHz at 600 W, while the ClearVü and SideVü elements operate at 260 and 455 kHz with a 500 W rating per element. A built-in temperature sensor adds live water temperature to your sonar page, which is handy when you are tracking a break line or staying on a temperature edge.
This model is specified for mounting locations with a hull deadrise up to 5 degrees, so it is a good match on flatter sections of the hull where you can keep the transducer aligned with clean water flow.
Key features
- Thru-hull mount with stainless steel stem for a secure install through the bottom of the boat
- 12-pin connector for Garmin sonar systems that support traditional CHIRP plus ClearVü and SideVü
- Traditional mid-band CHIRP sonar: 80 to 160 kHz, 600 W
- CHIRP ClearVü and CHIRP SideVü: 260/455 kHz, 500 W rating per element
- Built-in fast-response temperature sensor for real-time water temp readings
- Specified for 0 to 5 degree deadrise at the mounting location
- Uses included anti-rotation hardware so the unit stays locked in position under way
Installation and setup
A thru-hull install is more involved than a transom mount: you will drill the stem hole, bed the assembly with marine sealant, and tighten the internal hardware from inside the hull. Plan the location so the face sits in clean, non-turbulent water and stays clear of strakes, intakes, and the prop wash. If your hull is cored, the exposed core around the cutout should be sealed properly before final bedding.
Alignment matters with this style of transducer. On mounting spots where the deadrise angle exceeds 5 degrees, the fit and aim can be off enough to affect readings, so confirm the angle at the exact install point before committing to the hole.
Compatibility and system integration
This transducer connects through a 12-pin transducer port. Confirm your chartplotter or sonar module supports CHIRP traditional sonar plus ClearVü and SideVü on a 12-pin connection, and verify any required adapters or extension cables before routing through rigging tubes or bulkheads.
Use on board
It suits boats that spend time coastal and offshore and want a mix of classic fish arches on traditional CHIRP with clearer structure views from ClearVü and SideVü. It is also a solid choice for cruisers who want bottom definition and depth confidence when running in rougher water where a clean sonar return is harder to hold.
Maintenance and care
Keep the transducer face clean so growth does not soften returns, especially if the boat sits in the water for long stretches. During haul-outs, inspect the bedding line and hardware, and make sure the unit has not shifted or loosened from vibration or impacts.
