Overview
The Garmin DVI-D Cable is a DVI-D cable used to display video on Garmin Marine Monitors (GMM 150/170/190) from the GPSMAP 8500 Black Box series. It comes in 2 m, 5 m, and 10 m lengths to match the distance between your black box location and the monitor at the helm, flybridge, or a remote station.
DVI-D carries a digital video signal only, so it is meant for equipment with a DVI compatible port that supports DVI-D. Keeping the connection direct also helps avoid adapter stacks behind the dash where space is tight and vibration can work connectors loose over time.
Key features
- DVI-D format for digital video connections in compatible Garmin display setups.
- Used to display video on Garmin Marine Monitors GMM 150, GMM 170, and GMM 190 from the GPSMAP 8500 Black Box series.
- Length options for common onboard cable runs: 2 m, 5 m, or 10 m.
- DVI-D is digital-only, which helps avoid confusion with DVI variants that include analog pins.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple cable lengths to suit different helm layouts and routing paths.
The only difference between variants is the overall cable length.
- 010-12000-00: Length 2 Meter. Works well when the black box and monitor are mounted in the same console or electronics bay with a short, direct run.
- 010-12000-01: Length 5 Meter. Suits typical helm routing where the display and black box are separated by cabinetry, a wiring chase, or an equipment rack.
- 010-12000-02: Length 10 Meter. Fits longer pulls such as flybridge to lower helm, pilothouse to salon monitor, or other remote-display locations.
Compatibility and fit
This cable is intended for systems using Garmin Marine Monitors GMM 150/170/190 with a compatible Garmin chartplotter that outputs video over DVI, including the GPSMAP 8500 Black Box series. Confirm the port type on both ends is DVI and that the mounting location leaves enough clearance for the connector and strain relief behind the panel.
Installation and setup
Plan the route before pulling the cable, and allow a little extra length for service loops so connectors are not under tension. Avoid tight bends, support the cable along the run to reduce movement from vibration, and keep it away from high-current wiring where possible. If the helm area sees regular washdowns, tidy cable management and a drip loop help keep connector areas cleaner.
Use on board
This cable is a good match for boaters building a GPSMAP 8500 based system with one or more Garmin Marine Monitors and who want a clean video link between components. It also makes sense during refits when moving a black box into a better protected electronics space, adding a second monitor, or replacing a cable that has been pinched or damaged behind the dash.
