Overview
The Hella Marine Sea Hawk-R is a compact LED deck and spreader floodlight range built for 12V and 24V boats, with Multivolt 9-33V DC electronics. Light output is 550 lumens with under 7W draw (under 0.6A at 12V or under 0.3A at 24V), in a 5000K white beam, and the housing is IP67 sealed for exposed mounting.
The housing uses a non-metal, thermally conductive ceramic polymer to move heat out of the electronics without relying on coated metal, and the lens is Grilamid for impact resistance and UV exposure. Wiring is pre-attached with tinned marine cable, so it is ready to run into a junction box or directly to a protected circuit.
Key features
- Multivolt 9-33V DC input for 12V and 24V electrical systems
- 550 lumen output with under 7W consumption (under 0.6A at 12V or under 0.3A at 24V)
- IP67 sealed body for wet exterior areas and washdowns
- 5000K white light for task visibility on deck
- Non-metal, thermally conductive ceramic polymer housing to avoid corrosion issues associated with coated metal housings
- Grilamid lens for impact resistance and UV exposure
- Pre-wired tinned marine cable (0.5 m on recessed versions, 2.5 m on stainless steel bracket versions)
Variants
This range is offered with differences in housing color, mounting style, and beam pattern.
Depending on the part number, the housing comes in black or white, mounting is either recessed for a flush look or via a 316 stainless steel bracket with friction adjustment, and the beam pattern is offered as spot or spread. Recessed versions use a shorter 0.5 m tinned cable run, while bracket versions include a 2.5 m tinned cable for easier routing from elevated mounting points.
Compatibility and fit
Electrical compatibility is straightforward on most boats: connect to a 9-33V DC supply on a 12V or 24V system. For recessed mounting, plan for a light body that is 176 mm long by 50 mm high and allow about 35 mm of clearance behind the mounting surface, plus room for the cable bend and sealing. Bracket-mounted versions suit hardtops, arches, masts, and other locations where you want to set the angle after installation.
Installation and setup
For recessed installs, take the time to seal any exposed core in the cutout and bed the light properly so water cannot track into the laminate. Route the pre-wired cable to a dry connection point, support it against vibration, and keep it away from sharp edges. Do not open the light housing; it is sealed and has no serviceable internal parts.
Electrical and system integration
Each light should be protected by a fuse rated at 5A maximum. The pre-wired lead is polarity conscious: red is positive and black is negative. Reverse polarity will stop the light from operating but does not damage it, and the internal electronics are protected against common voltage spikes and overvoltage events seen on marine DC systems.
Use cases on board
Spread beam versions work well for lighting that covers a cockpit, swim platform area, foredeck working space, or a general deck wash. Spot beam versions concentrate light farther out for tasks like loading gear, line work, or picking out features ahead without needing multiple fixtures. This range is a good match for boats where power draw matters and for installations that see spray, vibration, and long sun exposure.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the lens and housing after salt use and avoid abrasive cleaners that can scuff the lens surface. Periodically check the mounting fasteners, the cable support points, and the bedding or sealant line, especially on hardtop and transom installs that see regular vibration.
