Overview
The Blue Sea Systems PowerPost is an insulated single-stud terminal point for joining multiple high-amperage DC conductors in a clean, serviceable location. It gives battery cables, inverter feeds, windlass cables, charger leads, and other larger DC runs a secure common connection point without needing the footprint of a full bus bar.
Each PowerPost uses a stainless steel terminal stud on an insulated red base rated for up to 48V DC. The reinforced thermoplastic base is listed as PBT UL94 V0, giving the post a practical housing for marine electrical spaces where vibration, heat, and tight mounting locations are part of the job.
This single-stud format is useful on boats where cable routing needs to stay organized behind a panel, near a battery bank, inside an equipment locker, or close to a high-load accessory. Select the stud size that matches the ring terminals and cable stack used in the system.
Key features
- Insulated single stainless steel stud gives multiple large conductors one secure termination point.
- Rated for DC systems up to 48V, covering common 12V, 24V, and 48V marine DC installations.
- Reinforced thermoplastic base with PBT UL94 V0 material rating supports use in demanding electrical compartments.
- Single-post layout helps keep high-amperage cable runs tidy where space is limited and a full bus bar is not needed.
- Multiple stud sizes are available to match common marine ring-terminal hardware.
Variants
The PowerPost is offered in several stud configurations so it can be matched to the ring terminals, cable lug hardware, and available mounting space in the boat’s DC system.
The stud thread and stud length vary by configuration. The insulated single-stud function, 48V DC maximum rating, stainless steel stud construction, and reinforced thermoplastic base are consistent across the listed PowerPost and Mini PowerPost options.
- 2001: 1/4"-20 stud size with 1-1/16" stud length. This size suits installations using 1/4" ring terminals where a longer stud is useful for a modest stack of properly sized conductors.
- 2002: 5/16"-18 stud size with 7/8" stud length. The larger 5/16" thread works with heavier lugs often used on higher-current DC cable runs.
- 2003: 3/8"-16 stud size with 7/8" stud length. This is the largest listed stud size and fits systems using 3/8" ring terminals on large battery or equipment cables.
- 2010: #10-32 stud size with 5/8" stud length. This Mini PowerPost option fits smaller ring terminals and compact DC connection points.
- 2011: 1/4"-20 stud size with 3/4" stud length. This Mini PowerPost option keeps the common 1/4" thread in a shorter format for tighter mounting areas.
Installation and setup
Mount the PowerPost on a stable surface close to the cable group it will serve, with enough clearance to install the ring terminals flat on the stud and protect the connection from accidental contact. It should be positioned so cables are supported and not pulling on the stud, especially on boats where vibration and hull movement can work against loose or strained wiring.
Use ring terminals that match the selected stud size and the cable gauge in the circuit. Keep the stack clean, flat, and serviceable, and follow accepted marine wiring practice for the number of terminals placed on one stud. For 1/4"-20 versions with a listed torque value, the recommended torque is 70 in-lb.
Use cases on board
This terminal post is a good fit for owners, installers, and refit projects that need a neat junction point for high-current DC wiring without adding a larger distribution block. Common applications include battery cable takeoffs, charger or inverter connections, windlass and thruster control feeds, and other locations where several heavy conductors need to meet at one protected point.
It is also helpful during system upgrades, where an older cable stack needs to be moved off a battery post and onto a dedicated termination point that is easier to inspect and maintain.
