Overview
The Garmin 010-12531-01 is a 500 mm (20 in.) marine network adapter cable that converts a compatible device’s network connector from small (male) to large (male). It is a short pigtail used to transition between connector sizes when tying Garmin network equipment into an existing Garmin marine network installation.
This cable is commonly used when a peripheral or extension uses the smaller Garmin BlueNet style connector but the destination is a legacy Garmin Marine Network port on a chartplotter or a GMS 10 network switch.
It changes connector size only. Some mixed-network installs still require a Garmin BlueNet 30 gateway depending on the devices you are connecting.
Key features
- Small (male) to large (male) Garmin network connectors for adapting connector size without splicing
- 500 mm (20 in.) length for a tidy transition behind the helm, at a module, or at a network switch
- Used to connect compatible Garmin BlueNet connector devices into legacy Garmin Marine Network ports, including GMS 10 switches
- Short adapter format helps keep bulky network cables from crowding tight electronics spaces
Compatibility and fit
Verify the connector size at both ends before ordering. One end is the smaller Garmin network plug and the other end is the larger legacy Garmin Marine Network plug, and both ends are male.
This is not an RJ45 adapter. If your boat uses standard Ethernet cabling or you need an RJ45 transition, this cable will not be the right interface.
Installation and setup
Plan this adapter as a transition point close to the legacy device or switch so the longer cable run stays on the correct connector size. Support the cable so it is not hanging from the port, and leave enough slack to service the connection later without stressing the connectors.
Route it away from sharp edges and heat sources, and avoid tight bends that can pull on the connectors when the boat vibrates underway.
On-board use notes
This adapter is a practical match for boats that already have legacy Garmin Marine Network cabling installed and are adding a newer peripheral or extension that ends in the small connector.
It is also a useful spare to keep onboard if you run Garmin Panoptix transducers or sonar modules that use the small connector for network integration.
