Overview
The Blue Sea Systems 9012 is an L-Series solenoid switch for remote switching on 12V and 24V DC systems. It is a normally open SPST unit with a 250A continuous rating, a 275A rating for 5 minutes, and a 1000A cranking rating for 30 seconds, so it fits high-current jobs where the switching point needs to stay close to the battery or load.
This model is built for marine electrical systems that need remote on-off control without running heavy cable to the helm, switch panel, or another control point. The control circuit works across 9 to 36V DC, the contacts are hermetically sealed and vaporproof, and the sealed circuit board is IP67-rated. It is also ignition protected, which matters on gasoline-powered boats.
On board, this switch is commonly used for windlass circuits, remote battery switching, and other DC loads that need short heavy-cable runs with a small control wire routed to a convenient switch location. It makes the most sense where space is limited and where you do not need manual control at the solenoid itself.
Key features
- Works on 12V and 24V DC systems with a 9 to 36V DC control circuit
- 250A continuous rating, 275A for 5 minutes, and 1000A cranking rating for 30 seconds
- SPST normally open contact form for remote on-off control of high-current circuits
- Activated by a low-amperage ON-OFF switch that can be mounted away from the solenoid
- Integrated coil control keeps heat and steady current draw lower during operation
- Hermetically sealed contacts, vaporproof construction, and an IP67-rated sealed circuit board
- Ignition protected for use on gasoline-powered boats
- 20 AWG tinned-wire control leads and M8 terminal studs that accept 5/16 inch ring terminals
- Mounts with #10 or M5 fasteners and uses stainless steel terminal studs
- No external coil suppression is required
Installation and setup
This unit is usually mounted close to the battery bank or the load so the main cable run stays short and voltage drop stays easier to manage. The control side can then be taken to a helm switch, dash panel, or other convenient point with the factory 20 AWG tinned leads. Main cable connections land on M8 studs sized for 5/16 inch terminals.
The switch should be mounted in a dry location. That layout suits many windlass and battery-control installations because the high-current path stays local while the operator still gets remote switching from elsewhere on the boat.
Compatibility and fit
The 9012 fits boats that run either a 12V or 24V DC electrical system and need a remote solenoid rather than a manual battery switch at the mounting point. Ignition protection makes it a practical choice for gasoline-powered boats, and the sealed contact design helps in marine spaces where moisture, spray, and vibration are part of normal use.
This is a good match for owners setting up a windlass control circuit, a remote battery disconnect arrangement, or another high-amperage DC circuit where a small control switch is easier to place than a heavy manual switch body.
