Overview
The Vimar Idea 17001 is a 1-pole, 1-way rocker switch rated 16 AX at 250 V AC for Vimar Idea reduced-module installations. It is commonly used on boats for clean, flush-mounted interior switching where Vimar Idea plates and modules are already part of the fit-out.
This is an IP40 device, so it belongs in protected locations such as cabins, salons, and inside a helm console, not on an exposed bulkhead that sees spray or washdowns. It is built as a modular device with screw terminals and a snap-in fastening style, which keeps servicing straightforward when you need to access wiring behind a plate.
For lighting loads, it supports self-ballasted lamps up to 200 W. Physical fit is compact for panel planning, with a 50.10 mm device height and a 23.30 mm built-in depth.
Key features
- 1-pole, 1-way rocker action for controlling a single circuit from one location
- 16 AX, 250 V AC rating, with support for self-ballasted lamps up to 200 W
- IP40 protection level for dry, protected interior mounting areas
- Reduced-module format for Vimar Idea modular plates and supports, offered in 1-module and 2-module widths
- Screw terminal connections for secure wiring in a vibration-prone environment
- Thermoplastic construction that is halogen-free, with a matt finish and a label space on the front
- Optional Luminous configurations are intended to be paired with a signalling unit (signalling unit not included)
Variants
This product is offered in multiple configurations that vary by face color, module width (1 module or 2 modules), and whether the front is the Luminous style.
Luminous configurations are set up for use with a signalling unit so the switch can be found in low light, while standard configurations have no lighting. Module width affects how much space the switch occupies in the plate, so it needs to match the layout of your existing Idea frame and cover plate.
Installation and wiring
The switch is intended for flush mounting and snaps into the matching Vimar Idea support. Plan enough clearance behind the plate for wire routing, and confirm the backbox or mounting space can accommodate the built-in depth.
Use the screw terminals for secure conductor clamping, and verify the circuit type and voltage match the device rating. On boats, this style of switch is typically used on fixed onboard AC circuits, so power should be isolated at the source before installation.
Compatibility and fit
This is a reduced-module device for the Vimar Idea system, so fit depends on using the correct Idea frames, supports, and cover plates. The 1-module and 2-module configurations are meant to align with the modular grid of the plate, which is especially important when you are mixing switches, outlets, and blanks in the same station.
It is a good match for refits where an existing Vimar Idea installation needs a like-for-like replacement, and for new interior panels where you want a modular, serviceable switching layout that stays consistent across the boat.
