Overview
The Garmin 013-00005-00 is a wrist lanyard that keeps a compatible handheld Garmin GPS attached to you so it is less likely to end up in the drink during docking, fishing, or a quick run in the tender. Packaged dimensions are 1 in H x 1 in W x 1 in L, and packaged weight is 0.05 lb.
It’s a simple accessory for boats where a handheld gets passed around the cockpit, carried up to the bow, or used on a kayak or paddleboard. The strap keeps the unit close at hand without needing a fixed mount.
Key features
- Wrist lanyard tether for handheld GPS use on deck, in the dinghy, or while paddling
- Helps reduce accidental drops when hands are wet, gloved, or busy handling lines and gear
- Compatible with Astro, Astro 220, Astro 320, eMap, GPS 60, GPS 72, GPS 72H, GPS 76, GPSMAP 175/195, GPSMAP 6x series, GPSMAP 7x series, NavTalk, and Rino 1xx/5xx series devices
- Compact accessory with packaged weight of 0.05 lb, easy to keep as a spare in a nav bag
- Secures to the device’s lanyard attachment point for carry that stays connected to you, not the console
Compatibility and fit
This lanyard relies on a lanyard slot or attachment point on the device. If your unit only accepts a belt clip, cradle, or fixed mount, this strap will not be the right style of attachment.
Because many Garmin handhelds use similar attachment points across generations, it’s worth confirming your exact model name against the compatibility list before ordering, especially if you are pairing it with a newer handheld that is not listed.
Installation and setup
Feed the loop through the handheld’s lanyard point, pass the strap end through the loop, and pull snug to lock it in place. Adjust the wrist loop so it sits comfortably without restricting access to the keypad or screen, and leave enough slack to operate the unit with one hand.
Use on board
This is a practical add-on for skippers who keep a handheld GPS as a backup to the helm electronics, and for anglers who carry a handheld while moving between stations. The tether helps keep the unit with you when spray picks up or the boat is bouncing.
Maintenance and care
After saltwater use, rinse with fresh water, let it dry, and inspect the strap and the device attachment point for wear. Replace the lanyard if you see fraying or damage before relying on it near the rail.
