Overview
The Garmin Navionics China Sea & Japan is an electronic chart region for compatible Garmin chartplotters, covering the eastern Asian coast from Vladivostok to the Mekong River Delta. Coverage includes the Japanese Islands, the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, Brunei, the Philippines, and major ports such as Shanghai, Dalian, Hong Kong, and Pusan.
It is offered in Garmin Navionics+ (region code NSAE011L) and Garmin Navionics Vision+ (region code NVAE011L) versions, with either a preloaded microSD/SD card or a download option. New chart purchases include a one-year subscription that enables daily updates and additional features through the ActiveCaptain app; when the subscription ends, the charts you already have remain usable, but new downloads and updates require an active subscription.
Key features
- China Sea & Japan coverage from Vladivostok to the Mekong River Delta, including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Brunei, the Philippines, and major commercial ports.
- Two mapping levels: Garmin Navionics+ for core chart content, and Garmin Navionics Vision+ with added layers such as high-resolution relief shading, satellite imagery, and 3D views (feature availability depends on the chartplotter model and area).
- Format options: preloaded microSD/SD card for direct use in the plotter, or download to load the chart to your own microSD/SD card.
- One-year subscription included, enabling daily chart updates and related features via the ActiveCaptain app.
- Auto Guidance+ route guidance support on compatible chartplotters for suggested dock-to-dock paths (for planning and situational awareness, not as a substitute for safe navigation).
- Customizable layers and depth-range shading, including up to 10 color-shaded target depth ranges for quick visual scanning while navigating or fishing.
Variants
This chart region is available in multiple configurations that vary by cartography version (Garmin Navionics+ or Garmin Navionics Vision+) and delivery format (microSD/SD card or download).
Garmin Navionics Vision+ includes everything found in Garmin Navionics+, with additional premium chart layers such as high-resolution relief shading, satellite imagery, and 3D views where supported. The microSD/SD option arrives preloaded, while the download option is loaded to your own microSD/SD card using Garmin Express.
- 010-C1214-00: Garmin Navionics Vision+ on microSD/SD. This option is a physical chart card that plugs into the chartplotter’s card slot for quick setup.
- 010-D1816-00: Garmin Navionics Vision+ as a download. This option is loaded to your own microSD/SD card and suits installations that prefer managing storage media onboard.
- 010-C1214-20: Garmin Navionics+ on microSD/SD. This option is a physical chart card for straightforward, card-in-plotter installation.
- 010-D1816-20: Garmin Navionics+ as a download. This option is loaded to your own microSD/SD card and keeps the chart media flexible across your onboard workflow.
Compatibility and fit
Confirm that your chartplotter supports Garmin Navionics+ and/or Garmin Navionics Vision+ and accepts a microSD/SD chart card. Chart and feature availability can vary by plotter model and the specific area within the region, so it is worth checking your unit’s supported chart types before purchase.
The included one-year subscription controls access to ongoing downloads and daily updates. After the subscription period, the installed chart data continues to function for navigation, but new updates and additional content require an active subscription.
Installation and updates
For the microSD/SD card format, insert the chart card into the chartplotter’s card slot and select the chart source on the display. For the download format, use Garmin Express to download the chart data to your own microSD/SD card, then insert that card into the chartplotter.
During the included subscription, updates are managed through the ActiveCaptain app. Keeping updates current is especially helpful when you run coastal routes, enter busy ports, or work shallow approaches where recent chart changes matter.
Use on board
This region makes sense for cruisers, delivery skippers, and anglers operating around Japan and adjacent waters, the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, and the broader China Sea corridor. Depth-range shading and configurable layers are handy when you are planning approaches into unfamiliar harbors, following coastal contours, or scouting depth bands that match your fishing program.
