Overview
The Attwood Marine LightArmor is an LED all-round articulating navigation light for boats up to 39.4 feet (12 m), with 2 nautical mile 360 degree visibility and 12V DC operation. It is made for use as an all-round white light where a removable pole light is needed, such as on runabouts, center consoles, fishing boats, and other small craft that use a 2-pin pole light base.
The articulating anti-glare head lets the light source be leveled so the beam stays flat and parallel to the water when the boat is floating. That matters on real decks, where the base may not sit perfectly level and stray light can reflect toward the helm.
The pole uses a locking-collar connection that helps keep the light seated in the base when the boat is moving through chop, vibration, or trailering loads. The anodized aluminum pole keeps weight down while giving the light enough height to clear obstructions around the stern, cockpit, or aft deck.
Key features
- LED all-round white navigation light with 2 nautical mile visibility through a full 360 degree radius.
- Suitable for boats up to 39.4 feet (12 m) when installed with the light unobstructed and at the required height.
- 12V DC operation for common small-boat electrical systems.
- Articulating anti-glare head helps aim the light level with the water and reduce light spilling into the operator’s field of view.
- 2-pin pole connection with a locking collar for a more secure fit in compatible bases.
- Anodized aluminum pole keeps the assembly light and suited to exposed marine locations.
- LED light source is rated for long service life and stays cool compared with older incandescent pole lights.
- Meets USCG CFR 183.810 and ABYC A-16 requirements for this style of all-round navigation light.
Variants
This LightArmor range varies by pole length, with 24, 36, 42, 48, 54, and 60 inch options. The pole length affects how high the light sits above the deck or mounting base, which is important when clearing engines, rails, canvas, passengers, or gear that could block the 360 degree light path.
Across the listed configurations, the series remains an LED all-round articulating pole light with a 2-pin locking-collar connection, 12V DC operation, and 2 nautical mile 360 degree visibility when installed correctly. The correct length depends on the mounting location and the height needed to keep the light visible from every direction.
Installation and fit
Mounting location is the main fit check before ordering. The all-round light should be positioned so the LED light source is at least 1 meter, or 39.4 inches, above the sidelights and so the light can shine 360 degrees without being blocked by the outboard, T-top, windshield, rail, rod holders, or canvas.
For replacement work, the new pole should be at least as long as the pole being replaced. A shorter pole can create visibility problems if the original installation depended on height to clear the boat’s structure.
Electrical setup
This light is for 12V DC systems only. LED navigation lights must be wired with correct polarity, so a light that does not operate after installation may indicate that the base wiring needs to be checked and corrected.
The circuit should be protected with a 1-amp fuse on the positive lighting wire. A typical navigation light setup uses a three-position switch for running lights, anchor light only, and off.
Use on board
This is a good match for boaters replacing a removable stern or all-round pole light on a small powerboat, fishing boat, or trailerable vessel where a 2-pin locking-collar pole is already part of the lighting setup. The longer pole options are useful where the light must clear raised hardware or deck equipment, while the shorter lengths fit lower-profile stern or cockpit installations.
Maintenance and care
When the light is not in use, remove it from the base and store it where the lens and pole will not be damaged or left in constant contact with water. Check the locking collar and base fit from time to time, especially after rough-water use or trailering.
