Overview
The MotorGuide MGA507A1 is a hook-and-loop tie down strap that secures a stowed trolling motor to its mount to help stop bounce during trailering and on rough-water runs. It measures 2 in wide by 28 in long, giving you enough wrap to cinch the shaft down without having to fight with knots or ratchets.
On a boat, this strap is used as a secondary hold-down after you stow the motor. It lays over the shaft and fastens back onto itself, keeping the motor from lifting or chattering against the bracket when the hull is taking waves, wakes, or potholes on the road.
Key features
- 2 in x 28 in strap size for a secure wrap over the trolling motor shaft
- Hook-and-loop closure for quick tightening, removal, and re-tensioning at the ramp
- Made to work with MotorGuide Gator mount setups, including common X3 and X5 applications
- Helps reduce stow bounce that can scuff decks, stress brackets, and wear mount hardware
Installation and setup
With the trolling motor fully stowed, run the strap over the shaft and anchor it down to the mount base, then pull it snug and press the hook-and-loop surfaces together. Set it tight enough that the shaft cannot hop in chop, but not so tight that it twists the shaft sideways or interferes with the latch mechanism. After the first run, recheck tension and adjust as the strap beds in.
Compatibility and fit
This strap is intended for MotorGuide trolling motors that use a Gator-style mount. If your mount has a clear strap path over the shaft and a solid point on the base to secure to, it will function as a straightforward hold-down. For the cleanest fit, confirm you have room to route the strap without pinching cables, steering linkages, or lift-assist components.
Use on board
It is a practical add-on for anglers who trailer frequently, run big water, or make long moves between spots where the bow takes repeated impacts. It also helps when the boat is stored on a lift or at the dock and you want the stowed motor held down against wind-driven movement.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the strap after saltwater use, especially around the hook-and-loop area where grit can reduce grip. Inspect the strap and closure periodically for fraying or debris buildup, and replace it if the fastening surfaces no longer hold firmly.
