The Victron Energy ORI241205200R is an Orion-Tr 24/12-5 non-isolated DC-DC converter for running 12V DC equipment from a 24V battery system. It accepts an 18-35V DC input and delivers a 12.7V DC output at 5A continuous, with a 7A maximum output current and a 60W rating.
On a boat, this is a practical way to feed light 12V loads from a 24V house or service bank without adding a separate 12V battery. It suits small DC circuits such as low-current electronics, control modules, and accessory feeds, as long as the connected load stays within the converter rating.
The unit is compact at 53 x 51 x 27 mm and weighs about 0.09 kg, so it can fit into tight electrical panels or equipment spaces. It is a non-isolated converter, which means it is not the right choice for installations that require galvanic isolation between input and output.

Installation and setup
Mount the converter in a dry, protected electrical area with the screw terminals facing downward when IP43 protection is required. It should be installed where there is enough ventilation around the case, especially in warm lockers, behind panels, or near other power equipment.
Use cable size, fuse protection, and routing that match the load and the vessel’s electrical standards. Because the output is limited to 5A continuous, the connected equipment should be checked as a complete load, not just device by device.
Compatibility and fit
This converter is for 24V DC systems that need a small 12V DC branch supply. It is not a shore-power device, inverter, or battery charger, and it does not replace a charger for maintaining a separate 12V battery bank.
It is a good match for boats with a 24V house system where only a modest 12V feed is needed for accessories or control circuits. For higher 12V loads, parallel operation, smart charging, or galvanic isolation, a different Victron converter or charger model should be selected.
Marine use on board
The small footprint makes this unit useful in helm consoles, electronics lockers, service panels, and other protected spaces where a 24V boat needs a controlled 12V supply. Its screw-terminal layout keeps wiring straightforward during refits or equipment upgrades.
For marine installations, keep the converter away from direct spray, bilge moisture, and locations exposed to saltwater washdown. The IP43 rating is tied to the correct mounting orientation, so placement matters as much as the electrical specification.
