Overview
The Garmin 010-12117-00 is a USB Mini-B cable used to connect a GND 10 black box bridge to a computer. With the GND 10 in the middle, this connection supports sailing-specific data transfer using the Nexus FDX protocol between Nexus instruments and an NMEA 2000 network.
On a boat, it gives you a direct computer link to the GND 10 without changing any of the network cabling already installed in the vessel. USB connections are happiest in a dry, protected spot, with the cable supported so vibration and an accidental tug do not load the port.
Key features
- USB Mini-B cable for connecting a computer to a Garmin GND 10 black box bridge
- Supports sailing-specific data transfer using the Nexus FDX protocol
- Used in systems that integrate Nexus and NMEA 2000 networks through the GND 10 bridge
- Simple plug-in connection for temporary laptop access at the dock, on the hard, or while commissioning equipment
- Clean way to link a computer to the GND 10 without disturbing the installed network wiring
Compatibility and fit
This cable is intended for use with the Garmin GND 10 black box bridge. It is used when a computer needs to be connected to the GND 10 so sailing data can be exchanged in a Nexus and NMEA 2000 integrated system.
Installation and setup
Connect the Mini-B end to the USB port on the GND 10 and connect the other end to your computer. Route the cable so it is not pinched or chafed, and leave a small service loop so the connector is not pulled tight.
If the cable is used at the nav station, keep the USB connection away from spray and drips, and stow the cable when it is not needed. A little strain relief goes a long way on boats that see vibration and frequent movement around the helm and chart table.
Use on board
This is a good match for sailboats running a GND 10 bridge between a Nexus instrument network and an NMEA 2000 backbone, especially when you want a straightforward way to connect a laptop for sailing-data transfer through the GND 10.
