Overview
The Jabsco Par-Max HD5 is a 12 VDC freshwater delivery pump for marine water pressure systems, offered in 40 PSI and 60 PSI pressure switch cut-off versions. It delivers 5 GPM (18.9 LPM) open flow from a 5 chamber diaphragm pump platform, giving boat owners a practical upgrade or replacement option for onboard freshwater service.
This pump is made for 12 V boat electrical systems with a 9 to 13.6 VDC operating range. It uses an integrated sealed pressure switch, quick-connect ports, an internal bypass, and a noise dampening baseplate, which helps it work smoothly with faucets, showers, and other freshwater outlets on board.
The HD5 is self-priming up to 8 ft (2.4 m) dry prime and can run dry without damage. It also carries an IPX6 rating and ISO 8846 ignition protection, both useful details when planning installation in marine spaces exposed to spray, vibration, and electrical safety requirements.
Key features
- 5 GPM (18.9 LPM) open flow for freshwater delivery on boats with multiple onboard outlets.
- 12 VDC operation with a 9 to 13.6 VDC voltage range for standard 12 V marine electrical systems.
- Integrated sealed pressure switch with an internal bypass to reduce rapid pump cycling at taps and showers.
- 5 chamber diaphragm construction with a Santoprene diaphragm and EPDM valves in the wetted path.
- Self-priming up to 8 ft (2.4 m) dry prime and run-dry capable for practical tank-fed installations.
- IPX6 rating and ISO 8846 ignition protection for common marine mounting environments.
- Quick-connect ports work with the included 1/2 inch (13 mm) and 3/4 inch (19 mm) straight hosebarb fittings.
- 20 amp fuse requirement, with fuse not included, helps guide proper electrical planning during installation.
Variants
This parent product covers two Par-Max HD5 configurations. Both use the 12 VDC, 5 GPM pump platform; the verified difference between them is the pressure switch off setting.
The 40 PSI version uses the lower cut-off pressure for systems specified around 2.8 bar. The 60 PSI version keeps the same flow rating with a higher 4.1 bar cut-off pressure for freshwater systems that call for that setting.
- P501J-115S-3A: pressure switch off setting 40 PSI (2.8 BAR). This version uses the lower cut-off setting and draws up to 12 amps at that pressure.
- P501J-118S-3A: pressure switch off setting 60 PSI (4.1 BAR). This version uses the higher cut-off setting and draws up to 13 amps at that pressure.
Installation and setup
The pump uses quick-connect ports and includes straight hosebarb fittings for 1/2 inch (13 mm) and 3/4 inch (19 mm) hose connections. Plan enough clearance around the pump for the port clips, hose bends, wiring, and future service access.
The unit has 12 inch (305 mm), 14 AWG leads with stripped wire ends. During installation, allow for a protected connection point, a correctly sized 20 amp fuse, and wiring suitable for the pump location and vessel electrical layout.
Materials and marine environment
The wetted path includes a fiber reinforced polypropylene upper housing, polypropylene check valve retainer, Santoprene diaphragm, and EPDM valves and seals. The lower housing is cast aluminum, the pump head fasteners are stainless steel, and the baseplate uses rubber feet to help control vibration.
Fluid and ambient temperature ranges are 32°F to 140°F (0°C to 60°C). This makes the HD5 a good fit for freshwater pressure systems on cruising boats, fishing boats, and other 12 V vessels where steady domestic water service matters.
