Overview
The Jabsco Par-Max 3 is a freshwater delivery pump range for marine water pressure systems on boats with either 12 VDC or 24 VDC electrical systems. Each configuration delivers 3 GPM open flow, equal to 11.3 LPM, with a pressure switch cut-off option of either 25 PSI (1.7 bar) or 40 PSI (2.8 bar).
This pump is used to move freshwater from the onboard tank to fixtures such as a galley tap, head basin, cockpit shower, or deck rinse point. The integrated pressure switch starts the pump when water is demanded and shuts it off when the selected cut-off pressure is reached, while the internal bypass helps reduce cycling for a steadier feel at the outlet.
The Par-Max 3 has Quick Connect ports, an IPX6 rating, dry-prime capability up to 10 ft (3 m), and run-dry capability. It is an intermittent-duty pump, so it belongs in on-demand freshwater service rather than continuous circulation.
Key features
- 3 chamber diaphragm pump for marine freshwater pressure systems.
- 3 GPM (11.3 LPM) open flow across the range.
- Available in 12 VDC and 24 VDC versions, with 25 PSI or 40 PSI pressure switch cut-off choices.
- Integrated pressure switch turns the pump on and off with fixture demand.
- Internal bypass helps smooth flow and reduce switch cycling.
- Self-priming up to 10 ft (3 m) dry prime, with run-dry capability for short accidental dry operation.
- IPX6 rating, ISO 8846 ignition protection, CE compliance, and RCM compliance support use in marine installations.
- Quick Connect ports and included 1/2 in (13 mm) straight hosebarb fittings simplify plumbing into common onboard water systems.
- Noise-dampening baseplate, rubber mounting feet, and an enclosed motor casing help the pump sit better in lockers and service spaces.
Variants
The range is offered in four configurations based on boat DC voltage and pressure switch cut-off. The two 12 VDC models suit 12 V systems, while the two 24 VDC models suit 24 V systems.
All four configurations are Par-Max 3 freshwater delivery pumps with 3 GPM (11.3 LPM) open flow, Quick Connect ports, internal bypass, IPX6 rating, 1/2 in (13 mm) straight hosebarb fittings, and an included 40 mesh strainer.
- 31395-2512-3A: 12 VDC with 25 PSI (1.7 bar) pressure switch cut-off. This is the lower-pressure option in the 12 V pair and keeps the same Par-Max 3 pump format.
- 31395-4012-3A: 12 VDC with 40 PSI (2.8 bar) pressure switch cut-off. This is the higher-pressure option in the 12 V pair for freshwater systems that need more cut-off pressure.
- 31395-2524-3A: 24 VDC with 25 PSI (1.7 bar) pressure switch cut-off. This version matches 24 V vessel wiring while using the lower cut-off setting.
- 31395-4024-3A: 24 VDC with 40 PSI (2.8 bar) pressure switch cut-off. This version matches 24 V vessel wiring and uses the higher cut-off setting in the range.
Installation and setup
Match the pump voltage to the vessel electrical system before installation. The 12 VDC versions operate within a 9 VDC to 13.6 VDC range, and the 24 VDC versions operate within an 18 VDC to 27.2 VDC range. The pump is supplied with 12 in (305 mm), 16 AWG stripped leads for hard-wiring.
Use the strainer on the inlet side of the pump to help keep debris away from the check valves and pressure switch. Leave enough working room around the pump for the port clips, hose bends, wiring, and later strainer cleaning.
Compatibility and fit
The included straight hosebarb fittings are for 1/2 in (13 mm) hose, which makes the pump a practical match for many small and mid-size freshwater systems. The 25 PSI versions are a good match where a lower cut-off pressure is desired, while the 40 PSI versions give a higher cut-off pressure closer to the feel many boat owners expect from a pressurized freshwater system.
The pump is suitable for freshwater delivery on cruising boats, fishing boats, and sailboats where controlled on-demand water flow is needed at one or more fixtures. For continuous-transfer, baitwell, bilge, or chemical-fluid service, a pump configured for that application should be used instead.
Materials and protection
The wetted components include polypropylene pump parts, a Santoprene diaphragm, and EPDM valves and seals. Stainless steel pump-head fasteners and a protective motor casing help the unit live in the damp, vibrating spaces common on boats.
The IPX6 rating supports installation where the pump may see spray or washdown exposure, but the unit should still be mounted where it is protected from standing water and can be reached for service.
Maintenance and care
Check and clean the inlet strainer as part of regular freshwater system maintenance, especially after tank work or seasonal recommissioning. Keep hose runs secure, avoid sharp bends at the ports, and inspect the wiring and mounting feet if the pump becomes noisier than usual.
