Overview
The Garmin 010-11824-01 is an update rate select cable that limits a GPS 19x HVS (NMEA 0183) antenna to position updates once per second at 4,800 bps instead of the default 10 updates per second at 38,400 bps. It is used when a helm device, autopilot, or other NMEA 0183 listener needs the slower update rate and standard baud rate to read position data cleanly.
This is a resistor lead that splices into the antenna harness at the orange Accessory on wire. Once installed and sealed with heat-shrink, the antenna outputs the reduced update rate without adding converters or additional electronics in the line.
Key features
- Limits GPS 19x HVS NMEA 0183 position output to 1 Hz at 4,800 bps (from 10 Hz at 38,400 bps).
- Installs inline on the orange Accessory on wire of the GPS 19x HVS power and data harness.
- Maintains the existing NMEA 0183 wiring approach while changing only the antenna update rate.
- Helpful when older NMEA 0183 equipment cannot accept 38,400 bps or high-rate position sentences.
Compatibility and fit
Works with the GPS 19x HVS antenna when it is wired as a NMEA 0183 device. This cable is not a network adapter and does not add NMEA 2000 connectivity or change how the antenna is powered.
Installation and setup
Plan to make a small splice connection in a dry, accessible spot behind the helm or in the electronics bay. The connection is made by soldering the lead to the orange Accessory on wire and sealing the joint with heat-shrink tubing, then securing the harness so vibration does not flex the splice. After installation, verify the receiving device is set for 4,800 bps and confirm you are seeing position updates at a 1-second interval.
Use on board
This cable is a good match for boats using a GPS 19x HVS to feed NMEA 0183 gear that expects standard 4,800 bps, such as older chartplotters, autopilots, and instrument multiplexers. It is also useful when you want to keep serial traffic lower on longer runs where noise and marginal connections can show up first.
