Overview
The Garmin 010-12953-03 is a hardwire power and ground cable that keeps a compatible Garmin navigator powered from a 12 V DC system when it is installed in its motorcycle mount bracket (mounting bracket sold separately).
The cable has open-ended leads for power and ground, and the positive lead includes an in-line fuse for basic circuit protection. It’s used with Garmin Tread, Tread Base Edition, and zumo XT units with the 5.5-inch display, and it is not compatible with the zumo XT2 (6-inch).
On a boat, this is a practical way to run a powersport navigator at the helm or on a tender without relying on the internal battery, as long as the wiring connections are kept in a protected location and terminated with marine-grade, heat-shrink fittings.
Key features
- Hardwire power and ground leads for a permanent install on 12 V DC systems
- In-line fuse on the positive lead
- Works with Garmin Tread, Tread Base Edition, and zumo XT (5.5-inch models)
- Not compatible with zumo XT2 (6-inch model)
- Plugs into the compatible motorcycle mount bracket; mount components are sold separately
Compatibility and fit
This harness is intended for the mount and connector style used by Garmin Tread and zumo XT units with the 5.5-inch screen. If you are replacing parts in an existing setup, confirm the device model and screen size so the bracket and cable match.
Installation and setup
Connect the positive lead to a fused 12 V feed and the ground lead to the negative bus or battery negative. Route the cable so it cannot chafe on edges or move with steering, and secure it so vibration does not work the connections loose.
For marine installs, keep the fuse holder and any splices inside a console or under a dash where they stay out of direct spray and washdowns. Heat-shrink crimp terminals and a drip loop where the cable enters a compartment help prevent corrosion and intermittent power.
Use notes on board
This harness makes sense for small craft where a removable navigator is used for coastal cruising, dock-to-dock runs, or as a backup display. It is less appropriate for an exposed mounting spot that gets frequent washdowns unless the wiring and connections are fully sealed and sheltered.
