Overview
The Garmin 010-13009-01 is a 12 Vdc relay switch that adds remote on and off control to a DC circuit when used with a Garmin OnDeck Hub and the ActiveCaptain app.
It’s built for 12 V electrical systems where the OnDeck Hub input power is between 10 and 15.6 Vdc. The relay coil operates from 7.8 to 15.6 Vdc, and the switched contacts are rated up to 15 A at 10 to 16 Vdc (up to 9 A at 20 to 32 Vdc), so it works well for moderate onboard loads when you want app control without running heavier wiring up to a switch panel.
OnDeck can support adding up to five relay switches, which helps expand control beyond the basics for boats that want multiple circuits available in the app.
Key features
- Remote switching through the Garmin OnDeck Hub using the ActiveCaptain app
- OnDeck Hub power compatibility range: 10 to 15.6 Vdc (12 V system requirement)
- Control coil voltage range: 7.8 to 15.6 Vdc
- Contact rating: up to 15 A at 10 to 16 Vdc, or up to 9 A at 20 to 32 Vdc
- Supports expanding an OnDeck installation with up to five relay switches
- Simple four-lead wiring with color-coded control and load wires
- Relay operating temperature range: -15 to 85°C (storage: -40 to 155°C)
Installation and wiring
Mount the relay in a dry, protected location such as an electronics locker, console, or cabin space. Avoid bilge areas, open cockpits, or compartments that regularly take spray, since the relay should be kept dry.
For the control side, the relay uses a negative control lead and a positive control lead. Connect the relay’s white control wire to the appropriate relay output wire from the OnDeck Hub IN/OUT harness, then feed the relay’s black control wire from the same DC source that powers the OnDeck Hub, protected by a 1 A fuse.
For the load side, place the relay in the positive feed to the device you want to control. Connect the device’s positive lead to the relay’s blue load wire, connect the relay’s yellow load wire to the positive side of the device’s power source, and complete the circuit by returning the device’s negative lead to the negative side of the power source. Use wire gauge that matches the controlled circuit and keep all connections secure for vibration.
Electrical considerations
Before wiring, confirm the device’s current draw and any startup surge stays within the relay contact rating. Protect the load circuit with the correct fuse or breaker for the wiring and the equipment, and route wires so they are supported, protected from chafe, and easy to inspect later.
Compatibility and system notes
This is the 12 V relay version and it’s intended for OnDeck installations powered in the 10 to 15.6 Vdc range. If your OnDeck Hub is powered from a 24 V system, use a 24 V relay instead.
After wiring, set up the relay channel in the ActiveCaptain app to control the circuit remotely and include it in any rules or alerts you already run in your OnDeck setup.
Use on board
Typical uses include switching deck or cockpit lights, a cabin fan, a spreader light, or other on and off accessories where it helps to have control from the dock or while you are away from the boat. It fits owners who already have a Garmin OnDeck Hub installed and want a few additional controllable circuits without rebuilding their switch panel.
