Overview
The Vimar Net Safe RJ45 Cat5e UTP outlet is a modular RJ45 socket for Cat 5e unshielded (UTP) cabling, with T568A/B universal wiring and 8 contacts. It brings a clean, fixed data port to a wall plate so an onboard network run can end at the nav station, desk, or cabin without leaving loose patch cords hanging out of a panel.
This is a structured cabling outlet used for Ethernet and general data or telecom wiring on board, not a marine network backbone connector like NMEA 2000. The main decision points are the connector style on the termination side and the visible color, so you can match the structured wiring hardware already in the boat and keep the plate layout consistent.
As with most wall-plate RJ45 inserts, plan to mount it in a protected location. If the plate will see spray or washdowns, use a suitable enclosure and routing so moisture cannot track down the cable into the back box.
Key features
- RJ45 Cat 5e outlet for unshielded (UTP) cabling with T568A/B universal wiring and 8 contacts.
- Connector options across the range include Netsafe, AT&T/Lucent Technologies/Avaya (MPS100E), and AMP/Tyco Toolless Jack to match existing structured wiring components.
- Insulation-piercing terminals for termination behind the plate, keeping the connection compact in tight back boxes.
- Available face colors include Grey, White, and Silver for a clean match with nearby Vimar plates, switches, and outlets.
- Front presents a standard RJ45 jack for typical Cat 5e patch cords used on onboard routers, switches, access points, and IP devices.
Variants
This outlet is offered in multiple configurations that vary by face color and by the connector family used on the termination side. Across the range, the visible port remains an RJ45 Cat 5e UTP socket with T568A/B wiring and 8 contacts.
Color options include Grey, White, and Silver. Connector options include Netsafe, AT&T/Lucent Technologies/Avaya (MPS100E), and AMP/Tyco Toolless Jack, which matters when you are matching existing jacks, patch panels, or onboard wiring standards.
Compatibility and fit
Confirm that your wall plate and mounting hardware are set up for the matching Vimar modular device format, and that your cable run is Cat 5e UTP. This is an unshielded outlet; if your installation requires a bonded cable shield end-to-end, a shielded RJ45 outlet is the better match.
Installation and setup
Terminate using either T568A or T568B and keep the same scheme at both ends of the cable run. For Cat 5e performance, keep the twisted pairs intact as close as practical to the terminals and do not untwist the pairs more than 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) at the connection.
Termination handling depends on the connector family: tool-free styles are used on Netsafe and AMP/Tyco Toolless Jack versions, while Avaya-style versions use insulation-piercing terminals that are typically closed with pliers or a seating tool. Leave enough slack behind the plate for service, and route the cable so it is not under constant pull or vibration.
Use on board
This type of outlet is a good fit for refits and new builds that run structured cabling through the vessel and want a neat RJ45 access point at a work area. It also suits boats that already use Vimar plates and want the data outlet to blend in with the rest of the cabin hardware.
