Overview
The Perko 1199 is a chrome plated zinc alloy cabin door hook for holding a boat cabin door, locker door, or small interior panel in the open or secured position. It is a simple hook and keeper style fitting, available in hook lengths from 1-3/4 inches to 4 inches, and it mounts with #6 screws.
This hardware fits well in cabin interiors, companionway areas, heads, small lockers, and other protected locations where a door needs a positive hold without a larger latch. The chrome finish gives the hook a clean look against brightwork, painted panels, or molded fiberglass trim.
Key features
- Chrome plated zinc alloy construction gives cabin hardware a finished look for visible interior installations.
- Four hook lengths cover 1-3/4 inches, 2-1/4 inches, 3 inches, and 4 inches for different door gaps and mounting layouts.
- Uses #6 screws, making it straightforward to match fasteners to wood, fiberglass, or trim panels.
- Hook and keeper layout helps keep doors and small panels from swinging with normal boat motion.
- Suited to cabin doors, locker doors, heads, utility spaces, and other protected areas on board.
Variants
The 1199 cabin door hook is offered in several hook lengths so the same hardware style can be matched to different door clearances and mounting points.
The hook length changes by variant, while the chrome plated zinc alloy construction and #6 screw size remain consistent across the 1199 range.
- 1199DP1CHR: 1-3/4 inch hook length. The shortest option works for tight cabin joinery where the door and keeper mounting points sit close together.
- 1199DP2CHR: 2-1/4 inch hook length. This mid-short size gives a little more reach while keeping the hardware compact on small doors and panels.
- 1199DP3CHR: 3 inch hook length. The added length helps when the door edge and the keeper location are set farther apart.
- 1199DP4CHR: 4 inch hook length. The longest option in this group gives the most reach for wider gaps or offset mounting surfaces.
Installation and fit
Before drilling, hold the hook and keeper in place with the door fully open or in the position where it needs to be retained. Check that the hook can drop into the keeper without binding, and confirm that the door has enough clearance to move freely when the hook is released.
Use #6 screws suited to the mounting surface and the thickness of the panel. On thin fiberglass or soft wood trim, careful pilot holes help prevent cracking, splitting, or loose fasteners over time.
Use on board
This hook is a good match for small cabin hardware jobs where a door or panel needs to stay put during normal movement at the dock or underway. It is most appropriate for protected interior or semi-protected locations rather than constantly wet deck areas.
Maintenance and care
Keep the chrome plated surface clean and dry when possible, especially if the hook is installed near a companionway or another area that may see salt spray. A quick rinse with fresh water and a soft cloth helps preserve the finish and keeps the hook moving freely.
