Overview
The Perko 1287 is a chrome plated zinc alloy cabin door hook for securing a cabin door, locker door, small interior panel, or light piece of onboard cabinetry in position. This parent product covers the 1287 cabin door hook range in three hook lengths: 2 inches, 2-1/2 inches, and 3 inches.
The hook uses #6 screw size mounting and has a polished chrome finish that fits well with visible cabin hardware. It is a straightforward surface-mount piece for boat interiors where vibration, movement underway, or a swinging door can be annoying or unsafe.
Key features
- Chrome plated zinc alloy construction for a polished finish on visible cabin hardware.
- Available in 2 inch, 2-1/2 inch, and 3 inch hook lengths to match the spacing between the door and keeper location.
- Uses #6 screw size mounting, which helps confirm fit before drilling into a cabin door, frame, locker face, or cabinet panel.
- Surface-mounted hook style keeps installation simple and makes it easy to inspect the hardware after use.
- Useful for cabin doors, lockers, small panels, and light cabinetry that need to stay in place while the boat is moving.
Variants
This cabin door hook is offered in multiple hook lengths so the installed reach can match the gap and angle between the moving door or panel and the fixed mounting point.
The chrome plated zinc alloy construction and #6 screw size apply across the 1287 cabin door hook range. The main difference between the variants is the hook length.
- 1287DP1CHR: 2 inch hook length. The shorter reach is useful where the hook and keeper sit close together on compact cabin doors, lockers, or small cabinet faces.
- 1287DP2CHR: 2-1/2 inch hook length. This middle length gives a little more reach when the mounting points are spaced farther apart or the door needs more clearance.
- 1287DP3CHR: 3 inch hook length. The longest option in this group works for installations where the hook must bridge a wider gap between the door, frame, or panel and the keeper.
Installation and fit
Before installation, check the swing of the door or panel and mark the hook and keeper positions with the door in the exact position where it needs to be held. The selected hook length should allow the hook to engage without forcing the door out of alignment.
Because the hardware mounts with #6 screw size fasteners, the mounting surface should have enough thickness and backing to hold the screws securely. On thin cabinet faces, liners, or lightweight trim, backing or careful pilot drilling can help avoid splitting or stripped screw holes.
Use on board
This is a practical fit for cruisers, fishing boats, sailboats, and small powerboats that need a simple way to control cabin doors, locker doors, or light interior panels. It is especially useful in areas where a door may swing with wake, heel, vibration, or crew movement below deck.
Care and maintenance
Wipe the chrome plated surface with fresh water after exposure to salt air or spray, then dry it before closing up the cabin. Periodic checks of the screws and keeper alignment will help the hook stay secure through normal vibration and use underway.
