Overview
The Lumitec GAI2 is a small positionable utility light that works as a reading light, chart light, or task light on board. It runs on 10-30 vDC and uses a 6W LED engine, so it suits both 12V and 24V systems. The housing is IP67-rated for locations that see spray and washdowns.
Warm white dimming versions output 3000K light with a CRI of 90+ and are commonly listed at 250-290 lumens depending on configuration. The light head measures about 2.53 inches across, which helps when you are fitting lighting above berths, along a cabin side, under a hardtop, or anywhere you want a beam you can aim.
GAI2 wiring stays simple with a 2-wire DC feed. Control can be as basic as an on/off switch, with timed-toggle behavior used for dimming and color changes on supported multi-mode versions.
Key features
- 10-30 vDC input for 12V and 24V DC systems
- 6W LED engine with white output that varies by configuration
- IP67-rated sealing for interior or exterior mounting locations
- 2-wire hookup; can be operated from a standard SPST switch with timed-toggle control on supported versions
- Third-party dimmer compatible on dimming models
- Approx. 2.53 inch diameter light head and a 3/8 inch center pass-through for wiring
- Heavy-Duty Base option for applications that call for a more secure mounting style
Variants
This light is offered with two housing finishes (brushed stainless steel or white finish) and several light outputs. Options include warm white dimming, white dimming, white dimming with red and blue non-dimming, red and blue non-dimming with white dimming, and RGBW.
Base style also varies across the range, including Heavy-Duty Base, General Area Illumination2 Light base, and Positionable Light base. The electrical input remains 10-30 vDC across the family, while light output and control behavior depend on the selected light color option.
Installation and setup
Mounting works well in tight boat spaces. Plan wire routing first, then drill a 3/8 inch center hole for the cable pass-through. The mounting plate fastens with two #6 self-tapping screws, and the light locks onto the plate with a twist motion until it snaps into place.
After installation, the head can be rotated for aiming. An internal anti-rotation stop limits travel so the power leads do not wind up inside the base.
Electrical and control
GAI2 uses a two-conductor DC feed and should be protected by an appropriately sized fuse for the number of lights on the circuit. With a simple switch, quick off-on toggles cycle available colors on multi-color models, and the fixture returns to its default state after it has been off for about two seconds.
On dimmable white models, brightness ramps while the white channel is on; toggling off and back on at the desired level holds that setting. When multiple lights share a switch, a longer power-off reset of about three seconds brings fixtures back into sync if needed.
Compatibility and fit
The 10-30 vDC input range covers typical 12V and 24V DC house systems. With a light head around 2.53 inches in diameter, it fits well on bulkheads, overhead panels, inside lockers, and under hardtops. For installations exposed to vibration, secure the wiring with strain relief and keep the cable entry sealed so movement does not work the connection loose over time.
Use cases on board
Warm white dimming versions suit cabins and berths where you want light that stays comfortable for reading. White with red and blue channels supports night runs and cockpit work where preserving night vision matters, while RGBW versions support color-changing cabin and cockpit accent lighting.
This range is a good match for owners who want an aimable utility light that installs with a small wire pass-through and can run from basic switching without extra control hardware.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt residue from the housing and lens after heavy spray, then wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid aggressive solvents on the lens and re-check mounting screws periodically so the fixture stays tight after repeated vibration.
