Overview

The Simrad 24005860 is a three-way SimNet T-joiner with three prongs for making a branch point in a Simrad Intelligent Marine Network (SimNet) cable run. It is commonly used to add a drop cable to a device while keeping the backbone intact, or to reestablish the backbone when a daisy-chained unit has been removed.

SimNet is based on NMEA 2000 messaging over a CAN-bus network, but it uses SimNet connectors and cabling. If your boat is wired with standard NMEA 2000 Micro-C cabling, an adapter is required between the two connector styles. SimNet plugs are compact for routing, with cable runs typically passing through 10 mm holes in panels and bulkheads.

Installation and setup

Plan the joiner location so the connectors stay supported and the cables are not hanging from the fitting. A spot behind the helm, inside a console, or near an electronics hub works well as long as the area stays dry and you can access it later for service.

Leave a little slack for service loops and route cables so they are not sharply bent at the connector. After plugging in, make sure each connector is fully seated and locked before tidying up the wiring.

Compatibility and network notes

This joiner is for SimNet connectors and does not replace an NMEA 2000 Micro-C tee. When tying SimNet devices into a Micro-C backbone, use the correct adapter cable or adapter kit between the connector systems.

Keep the network backbone properly terminated at both ends and avoid opening the backbone when disconnecting a device. Using a T-joiner with a drop cable lets you unplug a device without interrupting the rest of the network.

Use cases on board

This joiner is a good match for boats that already have SimNet wiring and need a clean way to branch the network to an added instrument, sensor, or display without reworking the whole backbone. It also helps in refits where equipment is moved to a bracket mount and you want to be able to disconnect it without taking the rest of the system offline.

Maintenance and care

Keep connectors clean and supported, especially in areas that see vibration or occasional spray. If a SimNet port is left unused, protect it with an appropriate sealing cap so salt and moisture do not reach the contacts.
