Overview
The Vimar VM08038 is a 1-module 2-way (SPDT) rocker switch for 250 V AC circuits, rated 10AX (10 A), with support for an optional signalling light.
It is used to control the same lighting circuit from two locations, such as the cabin entry and the berth side, or from both ends of a companionway. The mechanism is prepared for a signalling unit for control/orientation lighting, but the signalling unit is not supplied with the switch.
This is an IP40 device for dry interior areas on board. It supports up to 100 W for self-ballasted lamps and is built to IEC 60669-1:2017.
Key features
- 2-way switching (SPDT) for controlling one circuit from two locations when paired with a second 2-way switch.
- 10AX, 250 V AC rating with 10 A current rating for lighting circuits.
- Supports up to 100 W for self-ballasted lamps.
- Prepared for an optional, exchangeable LED signalling light for control/orientation; signalling unit not included.
- Flush-mounted, snap-fastened 1-module format for Vimar 8000 series modular frames and plates.
- Screwed terminal connections for secure wiring terminations.
- IP40 protection for interior switch panels and other protected locations.
- Thermoplastic, halogen-free body with untreated matt beige finish (RAL 9001 similar).
- Compact size for tight panels: 22.00 mm wide, 50.10 mm high, 35.50 mm deep; 24.00 mm built-in depth.
Compatibility and fit
This mechanism matches the Vimar 8000 series modular system in a 1-module position. The front size is 22.00 mm by 50.10 mm, and the built-in depth is 24.00 mm, which helps when checking clearance behind a bulkhead, helm console, or cabin liner.
Because it is IP40, it belongs in interior areas where it stays out of spray and washdowns, such as cabins, saloons, or protected electrical panels.
Installation and wiring
The module installs flush and locks in with snap fastening. Wiring lands on screwed terminals, which is useful on boats where vibration can work connections loose over time if they are not properly tightened.
This is an AC-rated switch (250 V~). If your boat lighting is 12 V or 24 V DC, use a DC-rated switch appropriate for that circuit. For mains wiring on shore-power systems, installation should be handled by qualified personnel and protected by the correct upstream breakers.
Use on board
This switch is a good match for boats that use the Vimar 8000 series throughout the interior and want consistent controls across cabins and common areas. Adding a signalling unit can make the switch easier to find at night without lighting up the whole space.
Maintenance and care
Wipe the face with a soft cloth and mild cleaner. Avoid solvent-based products that can haze thermoplastic finishes. If the switch is installed in an area with noticeable vibration, periodic checks of terminal tightness during routine electrical inspections are good practice.
