Overview
The Vimar VM08215 is an RJ11 phone jack (6-position, 4-conductor) that mounts flush as a 1-module insert in the Vimar 8000 Series system. It uses screw terminals for the wiring connections and clamp mounting in the support, with an IP20 rating for protected interior spaces. The body is halogen-free thermoplastic with a matte white finish close to RAL 9001, and the device measures 22.00 mm wide, 50.10 mm high, and 42.50 mm deep.
On a boat, this is a tidy way to terminate a cabin phone line or other low-voltage comms point that uses an RJ11-style plug, without having a loose coupler hanging behind a panel. Since it has no dust cover and is intended for indoor-type environments, plan it for dry areas such as cabins, the nav station, or an onboard office, not for cockpits or anywhere exposed to spray.
To confirm fit, check that your plates and frames are from the Vimar 8000 Series and that you have enough clearance behind the mounting surface for the 42.50 mm body plus cable bend radius.
Key features
- RJ11 phone jack with 6 positions and 4 conductors, using screw terminals for direct wiring.
- Flush-mounted, 1-module format for Vimar 8000 Series modular plates and frames.
- Clamp mounting style for stable retention in the support.
- IP20 protection level suited to sheltered interior panels and bulkheads.
- Halogen-free thermoplastic body with matte white finish close to RAL 9001.
- Compact footprint: 22.00 mm (W) x 50.10 mm (H) x 42.50 mm (D).
Compatibility and fit
This insert is sized for the Vimar 8000 Series 1-module opening. The visible finish is a soft matte white that blends with light interior panels and most white switch plates in the same system.
Depth matters on boats where panels can be thin and space behind them is tight. Allow room not only for the 42.50 mm device depth, but also for cable routing so the conductors are not forced into sharp bends.
Installation and wiring
The rear screw terminals make it straightforward to land the conductors without crimp ends, which is handy during refits. Keep the pair twists as intact as practical right up to the terminals and route the cable away from AC mains runs, inverters, and VHF coax to reduce noise pickup on voice lines.
There is no built-in strain relief, so secure the cable behind the panel so vibration does not work the conductors loose over time. On saltwater boats, using tinned copper conductors and keeping the back of the installation dry helps prevent corrosion at the termination points.
Use on board
This jack is a good match for boats that still run an internal phone line between cabins and the nav station, or for systems where a handset plugs into an RJ11 outlet. It also fits cleanly into refit projects where you want the comms connection to match the rest of the cabin switchgear rather than looking like an add-on.
Maintenance and care
After the first few trips, recheck terminal tightness and confirm the plug seats firmly. If the outlet is in a space that sees condensation, improve ventilation or move the connection point to a drier bulkhead location to keep the contacts clean and stable.
