Overview
The Vimar VM19397 is a 2-module removable emergency hand lamp that charges in its wall socket and can also work as a courtesy or step-marker light. It runs on 100 to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, draws 1 W, and the LED light source is rated at 40 lm. After a full charge, the torch operates for about 2.5 hours on its internal rechargeable Li-ion battery.
On a boat, this makes the most sense in protected interior areas such as cabin passageways, the companionway steps, or near the electrical panel, where you want a grab-and-go light if the AC side drops. The housing is rated IP40, so it is not meant for wet lockers, heads with spray, or exposed cockpit mounting.
Fit is based on a 2-module opening in a compatible modular plate system. The body measures about 44.7 mm wide by 46.6 mm high/deep by 49 mm long, with an installed depth of about 36.4 mm, which helps when you are planning box clearance behind a liner or bulkhead.
Key features
- 100 to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply for charging and automatic auxiliary lighting during a power outage
- 40 lm LED light source with 1 W consumption for low draw on the AC side
- Rechargeable, replaceable Li-ion battery (3.7 V, 250 mAh) with about 2.5 hours of light after a full charge
- Push-push mechanism for quick removal and re-insertion in the charging socket
- Courtesy or step-marker function can be wired for control from an external 1-way switch
- Optional anti-removal locking screw on the rear of the charging socket for more secure installations
- 2-module form factor with compact dimensions for tight panels and cabin bulkheads
Installation and setup
This device is intended to be installed in a wall box (flush or surface) with the matching mounting frame and cover plate for a 2-module position. It connects by screw terminals, and there is a marked orientation that should be kept upright when mounting so the torch seats correctly.
Plan it as an AC-powered accessory: it needs a continuous 100 to 240 V AC feed to keep the internal battery charged. If you are using the courtesy or step-marker mode from a wall switch, route the switched leg per your wiring plan so the light behaves the way you expect in daily use.
Compatibility and fit
It is sized for Vimar modular installations in a 2-module opening. Before ordering, confirm your plate system is the right series and module format, and check the available box depth behind the mounting surface, especially in areas with insulation, curved liners, or tight cable chases.
Electrical and system integration
This is not a 12 V or 24 V DC light. It is built for AC systems (shore power and inverter-backed AC panels) and carries its own small internal battery for emergency operation. If your boat is DC-only, you will need a dedicated DC emergency light instead of an AC-charged unit.
Use cases on board
This is a practical upgrade for boats already using Vimar modular devices where crew want a light that is always in the same place and easy to grab in the dark. It works well near companionways and inside cabins for step lighting, quick checks in lockers, or moving through the boat during an AC outage.
Because it is IP40, keep it away from washdowns, deck exposure, and any spot that routinely sees dripping water or spray.
Maintenance and care
Keep the torch and its charging socket clean so the contacts stay reliable. If runtime drops noticeably after charging, replace the internal battery; the LED light source is not user-replaceable.
