Overview
The Vimar VM14839 is a 16-module (4+4+4+4) surface-mount enclosure for Vimar Eikon and Plana series devices, arranged in a 4x4 horizontal layout with an IP40 protection rating.
It is meant for clean, accessible installations where a flush box is not practical, such as on finished bulkheads, inside consoles, or in refit work where you cannot cut depth into fiberglass. IP40 helps protect against fingers and solid objects larger than 1 mm, but it is not sealed against water, so it is best kept in sheltered, dry onboard locations.
Key features
- 16-module capacity in a 4+4+4+4 configuration for building out larger control or outlet groups
- Surface-mount format for installations where there is limited cavity depth behind the mounting surface
- IP40 protection level for interior spaces where splash and washdown exposure is not expected
- Built for Vimar Eikon and Plana series device layouts in a horizontal 4x4 format
- Insulating enclosure body for a fully non-conductive housing around the device grid
- Horizontal orientation keeps multi-point switching and labeling in one continuous bank
Compatibility and fit
This enclosure is sized for a 16-module (4x4) horizontal arrangement. Before ordering, confirm that your planned combination of Vimar Eikon or Plana modules and frames matches the 4+4+4+4 layout and that the finished mounting location has enough flat area for the full enclosure footprint.
This is the enclosure only. Switch mechanisms, sockets, modules, frames, and cover plates are selected separately to match your onboard circuits and the look of the surrounding panel.
Installation and setup
Mount the box to a solid, flat surface and route wiring so it is supported and strain-relieved before it enters the enclosure. On a boat, simple details matter: keep cable runs tidy, maintain a drip loop where wiring could see condensation, and avoid mounting positions where water can sit against the enclosure.
Use correct overcurrent protection for the circuits feeding the devices installed in the enclosure, and follow common marine wiring practices for conductor sizing, terminations, and chafe protection.
Use on board
This type of surface enclosure is a good match for cabins, nav stations, enclosed helm consoles, and other interior areas where you want easy access to switching or outlets without cutting into the structure. It also works well when adding a new bank of controls during refits and upgrades.
Maintenance and care
For routine cleaning, wipe with a lightly damp cloth and avoid harsh solvents that can dull plastics. Periodically check that wiring remains supported, terminations stay tight, and the enclosure is still mounted firmly in high-vibration areas.
