Overview
The Vimar VM14832 is an IP40 surface-mount enclosure that holds up to 8 modules in a 4+4 vertical layout for Vimar Eikon and Plana mechanisms. The box measures about 136 x 140 x 54.5 mm (13.6 x 14 x 5.5 cm) and is made from plastic with full insulating materials inside.
On a boat, this style of mounting box is useful when you want a clean, finished switch or outlet cluster but do not have the depth, access, or confidence to cut a recessed opening. Because it is IP40, it belongs in dry, sheltered interior locations, not in areas that get spray, washdowns, or heavy condensation.
Key features
- 8 (4+4)-module capacity in a vertical 4x2 layout
- Surface-mount enclosure for Vimar Eikon and Plana series devices
- IP40-rated housing for protected interior mounting
- Overall size about 136 x 140 x 54.5 mm (13.6 x 14 x 5.5 cm) for planning bulkhead space and clearances
- Plastic enclosure with full insulating materials inside the box
Compatibility and fit
This enclosure is built around the Vimar modular format and is intended to be paired with Eikon and Plana series mechanisms and the matching supports and cover plates for an 8-module, 4+4 vertical arrangement. If you are mixing device types (switches, dimmers, data plates, etc.), confirm the total module count and that each mechanism is compatible with the Eikon or Plana system you are using.
Before ordering, measure the mounting area on the bulkhead and check for nearby trim, door swings, grab rails, or cabinet faces. Allow extra space for cable bend radius behind the mechanisms so wiring does not get forced or pinched when the front assembly is tightened down.
Installation and setup
Mount the box to a flat surface with corrosion-resistant fasteners suited to the substrate (fiberglass, plywood, composite panels). Where the back side of the panel is insulated or inaccessible, plan cable routing and strain relief so vibration does not work the conductors loose over time.
The enclosure itself is not voltage-specific, but the devices installed in it are. Use mechanisms, wiring, and circuit protection that match your onboard AC or DC system, and follow accepted marine wiring practice for terminations, support, and chafe protection.
Use on board
This box is a solid fit for cabin bulkheads, a nav station, inside a helm console, or a utility area where you want an organized bank of controls without cutting a recess. It is also a practical choice for refits where you are extending an existing Vimar Eikon or Plana installation and want a consistent look.
Maintenance and care
Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth and keep the installation area as dry as practical. During routine checks, confirm the mounting fasteners stay tight and look for any signs of rubbing wires or stressed cable entries, especially in high-vibration spots.
