Overview
The Simrad 055-13233-001 is a remanufactured NSS7 evo3 multifunction display with Insight charts, built around a 7-inch SolarMAX HD IPS touchscreen for charting, sonar, and helm system control.
It runs on 12 V or 24 V DC systems (10 to 31.2 V DC) and carries an IPX6/IPX7 waterproof rating for spray and washdowns. Screen resolution is 1024 x 600 with 1200 nits brightness, and the internal GPS updates at 10 Hz with WAAS and GLONASS support.
The built-in echosounder supports CHIRP/Broadband sonar and can handle StructureScan and ForwardScan when paired with the correct transducer and wiring. Networking over NMEA 2000 and Ethernet makes it practical to share sensors, radar, and other data across a compatible onboard system.
Key features
- 7-inch SolarMAX HD IPS optically bonded touchscreen with 1024 x 600 resolution and 1200 nits brightness
- 12/24 V DC power input (10 to 31.2 V DC), with a recommended 3 A fuse for the 7-inch unit
- Max power consumption listed at 20 W (plus or minus 4 W) for the 7-inch unit
- Waterproof rating IPX6 and IPX7 for open-helm spray and routine washdowns
- Built-in 10 Hz GPS receiver with WAAS, EGNOS, and GLONASS support
- Built-in sonar with CHIRP/Broadband plus StructureScan and ForwardScan capability, rated up to 1 kW RMS with frequency ranges listed as 40 to 250 kHz and 455 to 800 kHz
- NMEA 2000 Micro-C connection for heading, engine, tank, and autopilot data on a backbone
- Single Ethernet port for radar, sonar, and multi-display networking
- Internal Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth, plus two microSD card slots for charts and updates
- Compass safe distance listed as 50 cm (about 20 in)
Installation and setup
This size fits well on center consoles, smaller pilothouses, and sailboat helms where dash space is limited. Leave room to route the power, network, and transducer cables without tight bends, and avoid mounting where water can pool around the connectors.
It supports bracket mounting or panel mounting. For fit checks, the unit body is about 9.41 in (239 mm) wide by 5.90 in (150 mm) tall, and the overall footprint with bracket and knobs is about 10.35 in (263 mm) by 6.30 in (160 mm).
Electrical and system integration
Connect it to a clean electronics feed with proper overcurrent protection. Keeping supply voltage within 10 to 31.2 V DC helps prevent brownouts during engine cranking or when heavy DC loads cycle on and off.
On networked boats, NMEA 2000 is the normal path for shared sensor data and control. Ethernet is used for higher-bandwidth devices and display-to-display sharing, such as radar and network sonar.
Sonar and transducer notes
The internal sounder can run CHIRP/Broadband sonar and supports StructureScan and ForwardScan when paired with the correct transducer and wiring. Sonar output is rated up to 1 kW RMS, with frequency coverage listed as 40 to 250 kHz and 455 to 800 kHz.
If the boat planes, take extra care with transducer placement to stay out of prop wash and hull turbulence. A clean water flow path to the transducer is usually the difference between solid bottom lock at speed and a noisy, drop-out prone screen.
Connections and expansion
In addition to NMEA 2000 and Ethernet, NMEA 0183 is supported via an optional adaptor cable. Composite video input is also supported via an optional adaptor cable, and two microSD slots handle chart cards and software updates.
Who it suits
This makes sense for skippers who want one 7-inch helm screen to cover navigation and sonar while still tying into a NMEA 2000 backbone for engine data, heading sensors, and autopilot control.
