Overview
The Vimar VM71304.AU is a 4-module flush mounting box in black plastic for recessed installation, with a 121 x 59 mm footprint and a 50 mm inner depth. It gives you a clean back box for modular devices while leaving room for wiring behind the support frame.
On board, this style of box is most often used behind interior panels and bulkheads for switch banks, outlets, or control points in cabins, galleys, and navigation areas where the backside stays dry and protected. With an IP00 protection level, it is not meant for locations exposed to spray, washdowns, or condensation that can drip onto the wiring.
The body is halogen-free and carries a Glow Wire 960°C rating. Break-out openings help with cable entry and routing so you can keep conductors supported and serviceable once the front devices are installed.
Key features
- 4-module recessed box format with 121 x 59 mm face footprint and 50 mm inner depth
- Glow Wire flammability rating of 960°C
- Halogen-free plastic body in black
- Break-out openings for feed-throughs, including 20 mm and 25 mm conduit entries
- Rack provision for fixing a dividing screen to separate wiring runs
- Zinc-plated support-screw lugs to help keep threads clear during installation
- IP00 protection level for dry, protected mounting locations
Compatibility and fit
This box is built around a 4-module layout and is intended to house modular device inserts that match this footprint. Confirm the device support frame and cover plate you are using are intended for a 4-module recessed box, and check that your mounting surface allows the full depth behind the finished face.
Installation and setup
The box is intended for recessed installation and is commonly set so the front edge finishes flush with the wall or panel face. Plan cable routing before the box is closed up, keep enough slack for servicing, and avoid packing the cavity so tightly that device terminals are under strain when the inserts are fastened.
On-board use notes
For marine installs, treat this as an interior back box: keep it out of wet lockers, exposed cockpits, and areas where washdowns can reach the wiring. It is a good match for refits where you want a tidy, modular control point in protected living spaces or behind a sheltered helm panel, and you already have Vimar-format devices that fit a 4-module recessed box.
