Overview
The Garmin 010-12390-21 is a 7-foot NMEA 0183 data cable with an RCA audio connection and a right-angle plug for tighter installs behind a flush-mounted display.
It gives you bare-wire leads for NMEA 0183 wiring, plus a separate RCA connector for feeding audio into a stereo input (including FUSION setups). This is a common need at the helm when a chartplotter is tied into older NMEA 0183 gear and you also want audio routed into the boat’s sound system instead of relying on the unit’s local output.
The right-angle connector helps when there is very little clearance behind the mounting surface, reducing bend radius and strain on the plug when the display is pushed into place.
Key features
- 7 ft cable length for routing from the back of the display to a terminal strip, junction point, or nearby equipment bay
- Right-angle connector at the display end to make flush-mount installations easier in tight helm spaces
- Bare-wire NMEA 0183 leads for direct connection to compatible NMEA 0183 devices and harnesses
- RCA audio connector for tying chartplotter audio into a stereo input, including FUSION systems
- Compatible with Garmin GPSMAP 8400/8600 series chartplotters, including GPSMAP 8417/8422/8424 and GPSMAP 8617/8622/8624
Compatibility and fit
This cable is intended for GPSMAP 8400/8600 family installations that use the NMEA 0183 and audio connections. The right-angle plug is most useful when the unit is flush mounted and the cable must exit immediately into a shallow space behind the panel.
If your boat is wired around NMEA 2000 only, this is not a substitute for a NMEA 2000 drop cable. It is for NMEA 0183 signal wiring and an analog audio connection via RCA.
Installation and setup
Plan the run so the cable stays supported behind the helm and is not left hanging from the connector. Leave a small service loop so the display can be pulled for access without tugging the wiring.
Terminate the bare-wire NMEA 0183 leads using marine heat-shrink butt connectors or into a labeled terminal block, and keep splices up high where they stay dry. Route the RCA lead away from high-current power wiring when possible to avoid noise getting into the audio line.
Who it suits
This cable is a good match for boats with a flush-mounted GPSMAP 8400/8600 at the helm where clearance is tight and the install calls for both NMEA 0183 connections and a clean audio feed into the stereo system.
