Overview
The Hella Marine DuraLED Heavy Duty LED lamp is a surface-mount utility light for engine rooms, storage lockers, lazarettes, and other spaces where vibration, moisture, and bumps are normal on a boat.
Multivolt input handles 9-33V DC, so it fits both 12V and 24V systems, and it comes pre-wired with 2.5 m of tinned marine cable for sealed electrical connections. The housing is sealed to IP67 and carries ISO 8846 ignition protection, which supports installs in wet or dry locations, including areas where flammable vapors may be present.
Two versions are offered: 20 LED (280 lumens, 6500K, under 4 W) and 36 LED (370 lumens, 5000K, under 7 W), with the same 177 x 100 mm footprint, about 30 mm depth, and 148 mm mounting centres.
Key features
- Multivolt 9-33V DC input for 12V and 24V boats
- IP67 completely sealed for damp compartments and washdowns
- ISO 8846 ignition protection approval for installs near flammable gases
- White-light options: 20 LED 280 lm at 6500K, 36 LED 370 lm at 5000K
- Low draw: under 4 W (20 LED) or under 7 W (36 LED)
- Pre-wired with 2.5 m of tinned marine cable
- Voltage protection rated for spikes up to +500 V and reverse polarity to -700 V
- Optics spread light widely to reduce harsh point sources in work areas
- Surface mount with heavy-duty nylon bushes that take the fastening load and help reduce housing stress
- Fit notes for 20/36 versions: 177 x 100 mm overall, 148 mm mounting centres, about 30 mm depth
Variants
This listing covers the DuraLED 20/36 heavy-duty interior/exterior lamp in two output levels.
The version name reflects the LED count. Light output, color temperature, and power draw vary by version.
- 959037521 - Version 36 LED. 370 lumens at 5000K, with power consumption under 7 W. This version gives a slightly warmer white and more working light for larger compartments.
- 980608001 - Version 20 LED. 280 lumens at 6500K, with power consumption under 4 W. This version runs with lower draw and a cooler white that can make quick inspections easier in tighter spaces.
Installation and setup
The lamp mounts on a flat surface using two fasteners on 148 mm centres, with holes up to 6.5 mm diameter. The supplied mounting bushes take up the fastening load. Fasteners are not included; 6 mm screws or bolts are recommended.
The cable can pass through the mounting surface or exit from the end of the base. Keep the cable away from sharp edges and chafe points, and leave about 5 mm between lamps if installing units side by side so the screw caps can be removed later.
Electrical and system integration
Connect to a 9-33V DC supply. Reverse polarity protection prevents damage if the leads are accidentally swapped, but the lamp will not light until polarity is corrected.
Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 3 A maximum. Built-in protection is rated for voltage spikes up to +500 V and reverse polarity to -700 V, which helps on boats where switching noise and load events can show up on the DC bus.
Low EMC noise helps reduce the chance of interference with onboard electronics such as VHF and AIS when wiring is routed cleanly and connections are properly sealed.
Materials and sealing
The lens uses acrylic that resists UV and impacts, and the housing uses plastic that stands up to UV and knocks. With an IP67 seal, the lamp suits damp lockers, machinery spaces, and other areas that can see spray or condensation.
Use on board
This light is a good match for owners refitting engine-room or locker lighting on cruising boats, offshore boats, and working craft that run 12V or 24V. It also fits installs where ignition protection is required near fuel vapors.
