Overview
The Raymarine HD Radome is a 4 kW HD Digital radar scanner range for boats that need radar coverage without the height, weight, or deck space of an open-array scanner. It is offered in 18" and 24" radome sizes, with radome-only versions and versions that include a 10 m power and data interconnect cable.
These scanners run on 12 V dc or 24 V dc nominal systems, with an operating range from 10.8 V to 33 V dc. Both sizes are IPX6 waterproof, rated for a maximum range scale of 48 nautical miles, and use HD Digital processing with selectable automatic modes for Buoy, Harbor, Coastal, Offshore, and Bird use.
The range suits coastal cruising, offshore passages, fishing boats, and sailboats where radar helps with traffic awareness, rain squalls, navigation marks, and reduced-visibility running. The 18" version keeps weight and size down for tighter mounts, while the 24" version adds a narrower horizontal beamwidth for improved target separation.
Key features
- 4 kW magnetron-based HD Digital radar scanner for marine navigation and target awareness.
- Available in 18" and 24" radome sizes to match available mounting space and desired beamwidth.
- 12 V dc or 24 V dc nominal power support, with 10.8 V to 33 V dc operating range.
- IPX6 waterproof rating for exposed topside installation.
- 48 nautical mile maximum range scale for long-range lookout and weather monitoring.
- Automatic radar tuning modes include Buoy, Harbor, Coastal, Offshore, and Bird.
- Manual controls are available for Tune, Gain, Color Gain, Sea Clutter, and Rain.
- MARPA target tracking support for collision-avoidance workflows with compatible displays.
- 24 rpm nominal rotation speed, with 48 rpm operation supported by compatible displays.
- Compatible with Raymarine Axiom family chartplotters and selected Raymarine multifunction display series.
Variants
The Raymarine HD Radome range is offered in four configurations that vary by radome size and whether the 10 m power and data interconnect cable is included.
Across the range, the core scanner specification remains a 4 kW HD Digital radome with 12 V dc or 24 V dc nominal power support, IPX6 waterproofing, and a 48 nautical mile maximum range scale. The 18" antenna measures 521 mm x 247 mm and weighs 9.5 kg, while the 24" antenna measures 652 mm x 247 mm and weighs 10 kg.
- E92142: 18" radome size, radome only. This configuration is suited to installations where the required radar cable is already planned separately or an existing compatible cable run is being assessed.
- T70168: 18" radome size, with 10 m power and data interconnect cable included. This package keeps the smaller RD418HD-style radome format and includes the cable needed for many new installations.
- E92143: 24" radome size, radome only. The larger antenna gives a 3.9° nominal horizontal beamwidth compared with 4.9° on the 18" version, while leaving cable selection separate.
- T70169: 24" radome size, with 10 m power and data interconnect cable included. This version pairs the larger radome with an included 10 m interconnect cable for a more complete radar installation package.
Compatibility and integration
These HD Radomes work with Raymarine Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom XL, Axiom 2 Pro, and Axiom 2 XL chartplotters, along with selected legacy Raymarine multifunction displays including gS-Series, eS-Series, e-Series, c-Series, E-Series Widescreen, C-Series Widescreen, G-Series Classic, and E-Series Classic systems. C-Series Classic displays are not compatible with these digital scanners.
When connected to a compatible Raymarine display, the radar can support radar and chart overlay, AIS target overlay, and FLIR camera target tracking. Existing radar installations should be checked carefully because many scanner upgrades require the interconnect cable to be changed or adapted.
Installation and setup
The 18" radome is a practical fit for smaller powerboats, center consoles, cruising sailboats, and radar arches where space or rigging clearance is limited. The 24" radome is a better match where the mount can handle the larger footprint and the narrower beamwidth is useful for separating nearby targets.
Radar scanners should be mounted as high as practical above the waterline with a clear line of sight. On sailboats, radome-style scanners are commonly mounted on a mast or a dedicated radar pole, with attention paid to sail handling, rigging clearance, cable routing, and safe distance from crew.
Use on board
This radar range is a strong match for boaters who already use Raymarine navigation displays and want a conventional HD Digital radome for traffic, coastline, buoy, and weather awareness. It is especially useful for running in fog, rain, darkness, busy harbors, and open-water passages where visual range can change quickly.
