Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 Vision HD is an electronic coastal chart for compatible Garmin chartplotters, and this VUS025R edition covers U.S. Alaska waters from Anchorage to Juneau with detailed coverage from Juneau to Alinchak Bay including Kodiak Island, Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, Yakutat, Glacier Bay, and Icy Strait. It combines Garmin and Navionics chart data and adds premium layers that help you read bottom shape and depth at a glance, including depth range shading with up to 10 depth ranges and chart detail with up to 1-foot contours where available.
On the screen you get a mix of chart layers and visuals you can turn on or off depending on the job: relief shading for bottom structure, shallow water shading you can set to your own threshold, satellite imagery overlays for ports and landmarks, and 3D views (MarinerEye and FishEye) for extra perspective when you are planning a route or setting up on a spot.
Auto Guidance uses your selected depth and overhead clearance to calculate a suggested path, which is helpful for planning but still needs normal on-the-water judgment.
Key features
- VUS025R Alaska coverage for the Anchorage to Juneau region, including detailed areas such as Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, and Glacier Bay
- Integrated Garmin and Navionics chart content for shoreline, aids to navigation, and coastal detail in one layer set
- Depth range shading with up to 10 depth ranges so you can highlight the depth band you care about
- Up to 1-foot contours for tighter bottom detail where available for fishing structure and close-quarters navigation
- High-resolution relief shading that makes bottom shape easier to see than contour lines alone
- Shallow water shading you can set to mark depths you want to avoid
- Satellite imagery overlays for ports, marinas, bridges, and navigational landmarks where available
- MarinerEye and FishEye 3D views for above-water and below-water perspective
- NOAA raster cartography layer available through the ActiveCaptain app on compatible systems (display support varies by device)
Variants
This chart is offered in two formats so you can match how you load cartography on your Garmin system.
The coverage area and chart content are tied to VUS025R. The difference between versions is the delivery method: a physical card you insert into a chartplotter slot, or a digital download you install using Garmin Express.
- 010-C0726-00: Format SD Card. Supplied on a microSD/SD card that is inserted into a compatible chartplotter with a microSD/SD card slot.
- 010-D0483-00: Format Download. Delivered digitally and installed using Garmin Express to load the chart to a compatible setup.
Compatibility and fit
This chart is intended for Garmin chartplotters that support BlueChart g3 Vision mapping. For the card version, the plotter needs a microSD/SD card slot. Some features, such as raster cartography viewing, are device-dependent and may be available through the ActiveCaptain app rather than directly on certain plotters.
Installation and setup
With the card format, the chart becomes available when the card is inserted in the chartplotter. On a boat, keep the card dry and seated fully before powering up. With the download format, plan on using a computer session for Garmin Express so you can complete the install cleanly before heading out, then confirm the chart layer and shading options are enabled the way you like for your cruising or fishing style.
Use cases on board
This chart is a good match for skippers running a Garmin plotter in Alaska who want more bottom detail for fishing and clearer depth visualization for coastal cruising in places like Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, and around Glacier Bay. It is also useful for crews that enter unfamiliar harbors where imagery and port detail can help with situational awareness alongside standard navigation practices.
