Overview
The Lumitec Surface Mount Aluminum Navigation Light is a surface-mount side navigation light in a classic aluminum half-round housing for installs where an inset pocket is not possible or practical. It accepts 10-30 V DC input and draws about 25 mA on a 12 V system (about 15 mA on 24 V).
It is U.S. Coast Guard approved for 2 nautical mile visibility and conforms to ABYC A-16:2016. Use it where you need a port red or starboard green light on a vertical face without a large cutout.
Key features
- Half-round, surface-mount aluminum housing intended for vertical mounting surfaces
- Side-light sector: 112.5 degree arc of visibility (port or starboard depending on output color)
- 10-30 V DC input for 12 V and 24 V systems
- Low current draw: about 25 mA at 12 V, about 15 mA at 24 V
- 2 nautical mile visibility rating (U.S. Coast Guard)
- Conforms to ABYC A-16:2016
- Mounting template shows two fasteners on 2.875 in centers and an overall width of about 3.63 in
- Positive feed is on the red lead
Variants
This light is offered in two output colors for the port and starboard positions.
The difference between versions is the emitted light color. Electrical input and the surface-mount aluminum housing pattern remain consistent across the options listed here.
- 101578: Light Color Green. Green output is used for the starboard side light.
- 101577: Light Color Red. Red output is used for the port side light.
Installation and setup
Mount the fixture where the required arc is not blocked by rails, canvas, or deck hardware, and where the light will not reflect back into the helm at night. Bedding the housing with marine sealant helps keep water from tracking behind the fixture on a spray-exposed surface.
Use the mounting template to mark and drill, then tighten fasteners evenly so the light sits flat against the mounting face.
Electrical and system integration
Wire it into your vessel's navigation light circuit. The unit accepts 10-30 V DC; connect the switched positive feed to the red lead and size wire and circuit protection to match good marine practice and ABYC guidance.
Use on board
This style of surface-mount side light is a good match for center consoles, pilothouses, sailboats, and small cruisers where a vertical mounting face is available but you do not want to cut a recessed pocket into the hull side or cabin structure.
